Two of the wildlings, Twin and Handsome Boy cuddled up together.
The walking iris is blooming. It’s so pot bound I intended to split it up and repot it before now but the road to hell and all that.
Minnie’s shadow on the chair cushion.
The recipe for the roasted tomato sauce for those interested. It keeps longer in the freezer than the four months noted.
Pipevine swallowtail caterpillars chowing down on Pam’s pipe vines. The first round has hatched into butterflies but they don’t cooperate for a photo.
I got down in the ditch Friday and cut it again. I guess I’ll do this until it gets too hot and then I’ll give up and give in.
New cat in the yard though I’m pretty sure this one belongs to someone. Minnie treed it yesterday twice and I saw it at the back of the big backyard this morning but it ran into the Wild Space as I walked back there.
First harvest of the spring garden.
Two views of the flower beds.
Finally getting some tomatoes. The plants are as tall as the cages and have been blooming but not setting fruit. Discussed it with neighbors and SHARE volunteers who said the same. I cut out a lot of the dense foliage in mine to open them up some because maybe they weren’t getting fertilized.
Excellent photos! Your twin cats are my favorite sort of tabby- smartest cats ever! The pup shadow is absolute poetry- a somber poem ....you are the ditch bitch of the century- what a load of work that is! We put a pipe underground in the ditch by our house and that works a treat, I must say. No more ditch bitching for me.
ReplyDeleteditch bitch...I can get behind that! I'd like to have french drains from the low spots to the ditch but too much work and expense.
DeleteLovely squash and pepper, there. The glass lady is now twirling in my sister's garden.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she found a good home.
DeleteThe bananas look good, as do all your flowers. I'm glad you posted the tomato sauce recipe. I do believe I'm going to do that, just as soon as I can lay my hands on some decent tomatoes. That first photo of the cats is so sweet. I always love seeing animals getting along like that -- especially when they're such cute ones.
ReplyDeleteI've only seen all three of them cuddled up once but all three are bonded and affectionate with each other. I haven't gotten bananas since we started having hard freezes every winter since they have to grow 15 - 18 months after emergence to flower.
DeleteThat's a really nice collection of photos. What a lovely area you have. Cheers, Ivy.
ReplyDeletethanks Ivy. welcome to my blog.
DeleteWonderful tour through your garden, I admire your harvest. We are nowhere near it. My cats never liked each other, so it's so nice to see those two so close together.
ReplyDeleteI usually snip off any new growth from the tomatoe stems once the plants are flowering. It makes them grow decent fruit. I suppose you did that anyway.
all three of the kittens are bonded and very affectionate with each other. which make it hard to find alternate homes for them plus the fact that they only trust me but are starting to trust robin as well.
DeleteI do pinch off the new growth but not as much as I should I suppose.
All those outdoor cats must spell disaster for the local songbird population.
ReplyDeleteat least the four that I feed won't be making any new kittens and hopefully since they aren't hungry they are less inclined to hunt. I never see any dead or mangled birds.
DeleteI love (love love love) your wildflowers. Definitely jealous of them. And Minnie's shadow is either a devil or batdog. :)
ReplyDeletethe yellow clasping leaved coneflowers are abundant this year. I'll go with batdog.
DeleteBeautiful, Ellen! I'm jealous you've already gotten some summer vegetables. Ours should be coming along soon, especially the green beans.
ReplyDeleteI love the title of "Ditch Bitch" that Linda Sue has given you.
that pepper had already been set when I bought the plant. it has continued to bloom but not set any more fruit. I think I'm going to move it to a spot where it gets better sun since it's now overshadowed by the tomatoes and green beans.
DeleteI have never seen that type of iris before! They are beautiful ... all of the blooms are but those irises are special!
ReplyDeleteit's one of my favorites.
DeleteLove seeing veggies already, as well as tomato plants mature already. Then must say your kittens curled together did make me smile as well. The flowers are certain to feed many pollinators!
ReplyDeletemy neighbor has bees so I do my best to keep them fed.
DeleteLOVE the cat photo! So cozy together! Your poppies and coneflowers are really looking good. I know what you mean about repotting the iris -- Dave and I have talked about dividing our Nile lily and we haven't done it. Soon it will be too late in the season.
