no clever title, no clever ending

I thought I had made a decision on the design of the tile for the tub/shower but I just had a flash and I can't believe I didn't think of this before so I'm going to draw it up one more time and compare.

I have picked a light fixture (doesn't come with glass shades, they must be bought separate and haven't picked those yet).

Still need to select a faucet for the sink and knobs and spout for the shower/tub, grab bars (thinking ahead since we don't plan to move again), and soap dish, hand towel bar, pick a stain for the wall cabinets, paint for the walls. Rocky didn't show up today and I have no idea when he will again. Maybe Monday but this is the end of the two weeks he had while he waited on something to be done on the job he was working on before me.

We finished our beach landscapes Wednesday and I'm pretty happy with mine (8.5” x 5.25”)

and then I completely forgot it was a yoga night and didn't remember til class was over but speaking of yoga I've been very good with my home practice, haven't missed a day yet since I started back up again so the new time slot seems to be working out.

Our daughter and son-in-law are moving in this weekend as they are moving out of their rent house in Houston but can't move into their new house out here because they still don't have a septic system (been raining too much) and they don't get their power til March 6. The child still at home, youngest grandgirl Robin, will be staying with friends. This ought to be fun...4 adults and one itty bitty bathroom with an itty bitty shower. They'll be sleeping in the work room so I need to take down the folding table to make room and they'll be up and gone commuting to their jobs mostly before we get up. They do have a generator so it's possible that once the septic system goes in they might go ahead and move to their house. We'll see.

It's been cold and windy and overcast, wintry, most this past week but stuff still thinks it's spring. I saw a peach tree in the neighborhood blooming, two of my azaleas are sporting bright pink buds but just a few. The rest of those two bushes are already putting out new growth so I won't get any more flowers on them and I have no idea why these two aren't blooming this year.

A sparrow is making a nest in one of the bird houses.

And the other day a red shouldered hawk came to the birdbath in the little backyard. It stayed there for a while getting drinks and then it moved over to perch on the rim of the turtle pond and then moved to the top rail of the fence before finally flying off (pictures are terrible as I was shooting through the door glass on high magnification with my phone/camera/device).

  1. I love tiny paintings. They're big in meaning, but small in inches. Yours is just a treat.

And I love hawks so thank you for the pix. We have several species here, but the one I can reliably identify is the redtail. I love to see their flight.

  2. Decent pictures; well done with inadequate equipment. I just finished reading H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald. It was fairly intense, and I did not indulge in my favored activity of a second go through, from the beginning.

  3. I too have been ‘doing’ a bathroom but, unlike you, I am not fussed too much because I probably won’t be here many more years and anyone who buys my house will make changes anyway.
Love your beach landscape, it’s so sweet, and the bird house too. bird houses here are always dead plain. I wonder why nobody thought to improve on them.
Good luck with the additional family coming to live with you. You may need patience and tolerance.

    1. since I'm turning 70 this year it's not like I'm going to be using it for 30 years but I see no reason why I can't have a pretty one during the time I have left.

I think they will be the ones to need the patience and tolerance being younger and still want control over their lives.

  4. Well, after two years I think my husband's bathroom re-do is finally complete except for some sort of window treatment. And it IS lovely.
Oh god. I can't even imagine any of our children moving in here but of course we would manage if it happened. Might turn out to be fun.
Hawks are bold, aren't they? Seems like your hawk was checking out the amenities. He may well bring his wife to move in soon. Then you will have two couples living with you. Luckily, the Hawks will not require facilities to bathe or toilet.

    1. son-in-law brought their dresser yesterday and was a little shocked to find I wasn't giving up my bedroom after all. I was going to move my bed into my workroom but then decided I didn't feel like moving the furniture all around and if someone was going to be inconvenienced it would be them and not me. the house is already is disarray from the bathroom remodel. didn't feel like adding to it.

  5. Gorgeous painting!
And your birdlife is impressive. We now have owls moving from the forests to the suburbs, especially during the hot season, they make quite the racket at night.

I must admit that I have lived most of my life in houses with just one shower for 4+ people incl. teenage females with hairwashing issues. I vaguely remember shouting and knocking and cursing but we survived it all.

    1. the bathroom probably wouldn't be an issue if it was bigger than 5' x 5' and the shower is about 30" square. like I said...tiny.

I love that the raptors are moving into the cities.

  6. I love it when a hawk will come to visit. They're such stately creatures. Good luck with the bathroom. We have a re-do in our future, but we're not in a hurry.

    1. we weren't either and weren't ready but as long as the floor had to be torn up might as well get it over with.

  7. Your beach landscape turned out really well! I hope Rocky shows up soon. Good luck getting the bathroom design worked out.

We're having an early spring here too. I'm pretty sure our azaleas in Florida used to bloom in February -- but maybe a few weeks later than this. (Can't really remember!)

    1. azaleas have traditionally bloomed in March but they have been blooming earlier and earlier the last 5 years or so.

  8. Oooh - love the beach painting! I noticed just now that our forsythia is blooming. That seems early, but frankly I don’t remember when it usually blooms.

  9. You are an artist so I am sure you second guess yourself on everything you do in that bathroom. I would not worry...it will be adequate if not stunningly beautiful. I think the visit of family sounds like a great opportunity for adventure. Be in the moment and always flexible.

    1. I don't know about adventure but it will be fine. they'll be gone most the time anyway, either at work or, in the evenings, working on unpacking at their new house or taking care of their dogs and cats.

  10. I really like your beachscape. It reminds me of the beach down around Matagorda, where the dunes are ever so much better than they are here. Your new living arrangements made me grin. Many, many years ago, my mother came to visit from Iowa, in January. Somehow, she managed to break her ankle in two places and was with me until May. If we survived that, you'll do just fine.

  11. I love the watercolor! Boy, it's going to be cozy for a while, isn't it? I hope Rocky can squeeze you in so you at least have two bathrooms.
