progress and growth

Progress is being made! The chair rail and crown moulding is all up and the windows are in.

Still needs to have some of the paint touched up and the flooring and baseboards but that won't happen til the bathroom is done so next is to close off the back room with plastic to keep the dust out while they work on the little bathroom.

And the garden is growing. The corn is up and the beans are up

and the tomatoes are blooming and I even have a few little ones forming and so put the cages around them and the blueberries are covered in swelling berries and the peach tree actually came out and is growing this spring instead of waiting til the fall like it did the last two years even though it didn't bloom and the squash and onions are growing and the peppers of various kinds are putting on buds.

Spring is still springing and while the bluebonnets are going by and the mock dogwood is dropping petals like snow, the maroon japanese iris are blooming

and the roses are robust

and the evening primrose are in full bloom and the clasping leaved coneflowers are coming on

and the poppies are vibrant

and the rocket larkspur are starting up

and the yard is full of dandelions and the amaryllis are blooming, the red and white ones and the pink and white ones and my beautiful all red one is blooming for the first time since I dug up the bulbs when we sold the city house 4 years ago this summer (has it really been that long already?)

and our nice dry days have given way to killer humidity in anticipation of the rain forecast for tonight.

  1. All that and, you got to decorate/design your own windows. Love it all.

    1. this was the glass to the old shop in Houston, door and two sidelites. and yes, I got to design them for myself instead of for a client. they must be at least 20 years old, probably older.

  2. Ellen- this is all just unbelievable. Can you believe what all you've gotten done since the flood? Who would have thought it? Those windows are perfect. And your flowers! My Lord!!
    You truly should be proud.

    1. I had some very pretty pink and purple ones too but they didn't reseed after one or two seasons.

  6. How amazing to see amaryllis grow and flower outside in real soil. We only know this plant as an indoor window sill charmer.

  8. The rose has arrived! It looks to be fine and I think I will plant it on my garden fence where it will get the most sun. It is a climber, right?
It may have been here for days. I'm supposed to get a slip in my mailbox if there is a package and I have been checking daily. Finally, this morning, I just asked if perhaps there was a mislaid box for me and sure enough- there it was- and the clerk did not even apologize and I am a bit angry about that but it is about to rain and so I am going to go dig a hole and put that Texas rose in Florida dirt and see what happens. Thank you, Ellen! So much!

    1. so glad you got it and it was still alive! it could have been there by Wednesday but certainly by Thursday. and no, not a climber but it will grow into a large shrub if you don't prune it back. of the two here I pruned one back about to about 15" in February and it's now about 3' high and blooming profusely and left the other one be since it's in a place where it won't crowd anything.
