Our
resident praying mantis, which I have posted pictures of previously,
attracted herself a mate.
She
apparently got tired of his 'mansplaining' everything to her and took
matters into her own hands. Or head into mouth as the case may be.
Later,
she had herself a fine meal.
I'm
expecting some egg laying before long. Her abdomen is getting quite
large.
I
couldn't get the third picture of her as she is no longer on the
shrub where she has resided all summer so either I finally annoyed
her enough or she has gone to lay her eggs. In any case, she is
gone.
Just like we learned in school! I wonder if all those preying mantis teachers brought to school on a stick in a mayo jar ever complete their life's cycle.
ReplyDeleteHarsh!
ReplyDeleteIts a rough life out there
ReplyDeletei've always heard they do that, but NEVER saw it in person. eek!
ReplyDelete"Oh no, I couldn't eat a thing. I just ingested my mate!"
ReplyDeleteWow... you could host a science and nature blog. I'm very impressed that you captured this on camera.
ReplyDeleteYour selfie is fabulous......and fun.
ReplyDeleteYep, that's a female who has the right moves....love um and digest them. ewwwww
These bugs are so creepy and interesting at the same time!
ReplyDeleteLove the selfie!
ReplyDeleteMaybe she went somewhere to pray? ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour selfie is great and the comments are hilarious. You really do have a handle on what's going on in your neighborhood;)
ReplyDeleteThe selfie is perfect, and your mantis momma is probably securing the future for her offspring. What do you suppose the function is of eating your mate after coitus?
ReplyDeleteYikes! Wild Kingdom is right! Where's Marlon Perkins when we need him?
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, that's a meanie for ya. Barracuda! LOL!
