adrift

painting by Anne Packard

Being currently unemployed means that I have oodles of time to do whatever I want. The problem is, I have a hard time deciding what I want to do. I function much better with deadlines looming over me. No deadline and I dawdle. I can dawdle a whole day away and accomplish nothing. I can't even seem to focus long enough to file all my nails down at one time.

I am adrift, at sea without a rudder.

  2. The painting is beautiful. Adrift huh? Well throw out an anchor and stay awhile!! Pamper yourself a little...nice long hot bath...soothing music...write in a journal or start one....take a nap. See, I just filled your day!! LOL

  3. Ha, I spend half my time when work or life is slow wanting deadlines and projects and business and then the other half loving the adrenaline but wishing things would slow down!

I know exactly what you mean about working better with a deadline
I find myself getting nothing done when I know it can wait

  6. Love this painting.

What a deadline? You have until ten pm to relax and enjoy.

  7. I was gonna be so cool with my comment then I blew that out the window. What should be "want", sometimes my fingers just do that, all by themselves...

  8. I got it. I didn't even notice it was misspelled. My brain read it right. and you made me smile. Aimless is probably a better description of my mood.

  9. It does take a while to get used to having free time all the time any time- really difficult...I think that you need more practice and you will become very good at it- so good, in fact that you may even travel to meet every one in blogworld face to face...but then that sounds a little too structured. It's tricky, this free time business...

  10. I'd say it's quite all right to dawdle after some weeks of concentrated labor on those windows. Perhaps you can use battery-recharging time.

  11. I'm like that too. I think a lot of humans are. I am a good procrastinator and wait for the last minute when something needs to be done.

    I love the painting too.

  12. Not to be Debbie Downer, but what happened to the person in the boat? It looks like she jumped out and drowned. If this painting is like an inkblot test, my gruesome, morbid personality just came popping out.

  13. This was exactly my problem this past week with my boss out of town. I had stuff to do, but I felt aimless & did very little of it. I'm glad he'll be back on Monday to boss me around!

  15. i hear ya about deadlines helping you be, or at least feel, productive. im desperately trying to undo that and get stuff done just because i want to instead of need to.
