fall bloomers and WTF

While it still gets in the low 90s during the day, mornings and evenings are cool and all the fall bloomers are, well, blooming. I don’t usually take pictures of the whole expanse of these plants so I am plus the close ups of the flowers I usually post.

I planted the rangoon creeper on the section of fence beside the drive into the shop yard where it can get all the sun it wants.

The pink trumpet flower, also planted in the shop yard for the same reason, it’s the only place that gets full sun. It’s just starting its bloom cycle and later will have more flowers.

Pam did not want the cutting from my morning glory bush, also a sun lover, which I thought she could plant in front of her house so I planted it last spring. It is glorious.

The white phillipine lilies are really kind of invasive sprouting up everywhere and after they finish blooming I’ll probably dig some of them up.

The next two are just coming into bloom. The shrimp plant has really taken over this section of the yard.

And the orange cosmos. In a couple of weeks it will be covered with flowers and I’ll post another picture of it when it is.

The mist flower doesn’t look like much in the big picture but it’s one of my favorites.

------------

This post was just supposed to be about flowers but things are getting more extreme by the day and I have to add, just what the fuck is wrong with people in this country.

Meteorologists are now getting death threats for explaining why hurricanes and the weather in general is getting more extreme. Mention global warming or climate change and the MAGAts just go insane because violence is the only way to deal with anything they don’t like and they don't like people talking about climate change.

Over the weekend FEMA had to pause their recovery efforts in two counties in North Carolina, the areas hardest hit, because of threats to the workers helping people on site. In one instance FEMA personnel were ordered out of the area after National Guard members reported encountering 2 trucks of militia members out ‘hunting FEMA’. Btw, FEMA does not have the power to either condemn your storm damaged property or confiscate it.

And finally, Trump held a rally in Coachella, CA on Saturday in which he went full on fascist informing us of his intention to denaturalize citizen immigrants and using the armed forces, if necessary (and of course he, or rather Steven Miller, will find it necessary) to round up illegal and legal residents as well as anyone he considers a ‘radical left lunatic’, you know the Hitleresque ‘enemy within’. This rally was held in the desert five miles from the parking lot. He had attendees bussed in only when it was over, there were no busses to take people back. Report is that the bus drivers were only paid to take people to the rally. Trump left without a backward glance stranding all those people in the desert in the dark. So who are his supporters blaming? The democrat mayor of Coachella and democrats in general.

  1. Your flowers are like a botanical garden! Thanks for the pictures. I love the mist ones, too.

  2. Absolutely wonderful flowers! I wish we could get some here but different place different bugs different environment and so on.
A friend with school exchanget son currently in Florida reported that the son's host family - suffered some damage and power/water cut - refused to accept water and whatever aid delivery as it was un-American and possibly toxic???

    1. if they were capable of replacing whatever was lost and didn't really need assistance, OK, you know give it to those who need it but to fear that water and other aid is toxic? that's just paranoid and completely a result of Trump's lies. it astounds me that people believe that crap.

  3. I'm so envious of your flowering plants. And I like you just keep pondering how, why and when/if this will turn around. All we can do is vote and hold on.

    1. this is going to be a long battle I'm afraid. this christian nationalism, desire for a theocracy predates Trump. they have been working toward it for decades. and if Trump gets elected Vance is there to be the real mover and power backed by people and institutions that want to dismantle our government and democracy.

  4. Your flower pictures are beautiful!
If we can't get rid of the Orange Lump and his minions, I just don't know what we are going to! The men have to accept voting for a woman is the best thing for everyone and the women have to vote in droves! Damn it!!!

    1. too many men fear losing the patriarchy that has given them power and prestige. it's going to be a long battle and take a generational shift. not until we have a majority of men who didn't grow up under the privilege of the patriarchy will things really change. that and trending toward a more secular state. religion is losing it's sway and it doesn't like that.

    1. I know, right? read a post yesterday about why so many Americans aren't horrified by the shift to fascism by the republicans. it speculated that too many people now are too removed from WWII. my generation, our fathers and uncles fought in that war but for our children it's another generation removed and another for their children. They just have no concept.

It is occurring to me that if this country votes that man in again I don't think we will ever recover.

    1. if Trump gets in and they get both houses of congress, we're doomed. it won't be Trump but Vance and the [powers behind him that want a theocracy, christian nationalism and every bit of Project 2025. and they know the majority of the population is against it and they don't care.

    1. I'm afraid not enough people understand how crucial this election is and what will happen if Harris loses. I hope I'm wrong.

  8. I really like these more expansive views of your plants. Not being familiar with things like the Rangoon creeper, it's nice to see how it looks in the yard -- also that white lily. So, so pretty. The mistflower's really going crazy at Armand Bayou, and I found a new species that also looks sort of like it and also goes by the name blue mistflower. Once I've confirmed its identity, I'll post some pics of it.

    1. I had much more of the mistflower in my yard in the city. even had an occasional white variety pop up. I expected it to spread faster out here than it has.

  9. You have the most exotic plants there. Beautiful flowers. Glad you got help with the tree, poor thing really took it in the head.

    1. I hope that tree survives and puts on new growth but it might be too damaged especially considering two of the remaining lower limbs are slowly dying.

  10. Trump is laying out his plan, step by step, for the future of the United States, yet still he is running even with Harris. So, one can only conclude that about half the country is willing, eyes wide open, to opt for autocracy. That is really troubling.

    1. it's very scary. hopefully the race isn't as close as the polls show. I don't trust polls for a variety of reasons. and I wish we could get rid of the electoral college and elect on majority votes.

  11. Your flowers are so beautiful, Ellen. It's getting chilly here so my flowers are almost done - only the zinnias still going strong. Leaves are lovely but starting to come down on windy days.
I voted Blue already so now I'm just waiting for this election to be done and hoping for the best!
I will be in Manvel, TX this coming weekend for a short visit, my grandson turns 9. It will be soccer game, hockey game, celebrate and then fly back home! I get to wear my summer clothes again! ;)
