un fucking believable

Well, I had a completely different post planned for today. Not political, just about some of the work I've been doing since I finished the A&M job.

I didn't watch the election returns which is my usual. I prefer just to find out the next day. When I woke up this morning, dread came over me and I just knew.

I am gut punched, shell shocked, disgusted and ashamed that the people of this country voted to put that hateful bigoted ignorant racist admitted sexual assaulter...a man who is totally incompetent, who for all his inherited wealth has a string of bankruptcies and failed businesses, who is indebted for millions to Russia, China, and Saudi Arabia, who has zero qualifications, a man who never served in the armed forces but thinks he is smarter than the generals, a man who has a trial for rape and one for fraud coming up in the next two months, oh shit, this list is endless...in the highest office in this country.

Just what the fucking fuck America?

Are you really that small, your heart that black and shriveled, that you only feel safe and good and happy when surrounded by white straight male christians that are so filled with hate and fear that they might just as well be spitting in your savior's eyes? Because that's exactly what you just did.

This is not the country I was taught about in school.

Well, all you people who voted for this disaster of a man are about to find out just how little he cares about you. You think he cares about the working class? He eats people like you for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You are about to find out just how incompetent he is and when the stock market crashes and our allies abandon us, when Russia grabs Eastern Europe, when we are at war with Iran, it will be your fault OK, maybe that last part was a little over dramatic but if he follows through on his rhetoric, it is all very possible.

Oh, and if you voted for Trump and are on Social Security, when he takes that away from you I want you to remember that you voted for that, when our women start dying in droves Texas closed 80% of the health care clinics in an attempt to stop abortions and the maternal deaths increased by over 200% in two years, when our water and air becomes polluted and poisonous, when you lose your affordable health insurance and your premiums skyrocket and they start denying care again, remember, you voted for that. When people start being imprisoned without due process, you voted for that. When free speech and the right to protest is gone, you voted for that.

So what do we do? What can we do?

We can stand up against hate and bigotry and racism every time we see it happening. We go stand with and for the target of their hate. We get between them and their abuser, we stand next to them, we hold their hand, and we resist. When someone in the grocery line gets berated for using food assistance if food and housing assistance survive, we come to their defense. When someone on public transport starts being verbally attacked, we go stand with them and record the attack. When we see injustice anywhere we step in to stop it. When we hear hateful bigoted racist speech we speak out against it. We resist the destruction of all the progress we have made as a people and as a nation. We work to make this a one term presidency.

Now, get to work. Tomorrow. Today we grieve.

  1. I thought I would find relief today that this election was over. Instead I've found a deep depression. Our country has changed for the worse. I just hope it will not continue on this path.

  2. I'm in a fog. I need to live another four years to see this through and to the end.

  4. Horrifying. And terrifying. Both the future and the proof that so much of America is so unbelievably ignorant.
It was good to read your post and come away with a bit of hope, however small.

  5. I'm in shock...how could this happen...hopefully all the crap he has been spewing is just to get votes and he will actually work for good...denial?

  6. I am so very sorry. It’ll impact on all of us but on the good people in the US most of all. Is that really what democracy is: lying and cheating and abusing others? I was going to cancel all my American friends’ blogs in protest, but I seem to know only the ones who are heart broken today.

At least we can be certain that the sun will rise tomorrow.

  7. There are children waking up in fear and tears this morning. Not exactly what one expects the day after a Presidential election. I ate about 6 chocolate chip cookies...then I turn to Bourbon. NOT good because I may not be able to afford health care soon.

    1. we may all likely see our social security and medicare evaporate as well along with food and housing assistance programs and PP will be completely defunded and abortion will be made completely illegal while segregation and discrimination will be allowed by law. Trump doesn't give a rat's ass about anyone who isn't in the 2%.

  8. This shows the downside of a democratic system. Democracy works only when the ignorant and stupid make up less than half the population.

  9. Over here in Europe we expect the wave to hit us next year with national elections in France and Germany where the extreme right are chewing at the bits. Reading your post gives me hope that by then, you all can show us how to deal with these haters.

  12. You wrote about all of the feelings women and good men are feeling today. I was so upset and sick all night that I lashed out on Facebook about the racist pigs that voted for Trump. A friend, for 40 years, took umbrage to my remark and said that I called him that personally since he voted for Trump. Our friendship is probably over and this morning, I did not care. However, I am having remorse for it now.

My heart is broken. I do not understand how all the pundits and pollsters were so wrong. Was it a plot to keep us in the dark and complacent into thinking there was no way Trump would have a chance of winning? Hillary did win the popular vote but again, like 2000, the vote was taken away by the Electoral College. That one gave us Bush and Cheyney, bad dudes, but not as bad as this one. I wonder about the Republican congress who would, on occasion, speak out about Trump's racist and misogynist behavior but still endorse him or just remain quiet. Did they know something and were in fear of Trump's wrath if he won? Does it really matter now; the orange head won and we have to live with it. My stomach will be hurting for four more years. I have to get a grip. The good thing is that we are in store for more funny SNL clips and more of Alex Baldwin.

  13. Amen, amen, amen!!!! I am totally sick to my stomach. Whatever happened to the America We knew. It is gone. Totally. Imagining that scum living in the White House makes me want to throw up. All the horrendous things that man did! And he will control our nuclear power?!? His controllers had to keep him off twitter, and now he will have the codes? I would like to go live on an island alone from now on. Our culture is no better than the worst ones we hear about, since we have chosen this jerk----AND HIS FAMILY!!---as our representatives/role models. Crazy.

The only positive is that I know I have lots of company in how I feel. The really frightening part is that the "checks and balances" are now non existent. Congress, WH, and Supreme Court all lined up against us. I think violence is on the way. Because desperation brings violence.

  14. The Eastern European part wasn't a stretch. Putin has jets invading Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania's airspace daily. Germany has placed fighters there, sitting alert to drive them out. If that man pulls the US out of Nato, Putin will roll over Eastern Europe.
It's hard to see how things could get any worse.

    1. Eastern Europe is in a very vulnerable position. Germany is seriously concerned with Putin and his doings, whereas here in the UK, where I live, we hardly hear anything.

  15. As Allison said, I think the threat to Eastern Europe is real. We'll see what happens there. I think there is every chance we'll be in an international conflict (at LEAST one) before Trump's presidency comes to an end.

I think many of the people who voted for him will rue the day -- or they would if they understood how his changes will affect their lives. Unfortunately their news sources will find a way to pin those changes on "liberals" or some other straw man. The deep-down mean part of me WANTS people to suffer. Like, you wanted it, you've got it.

  16. ...exactly how I feel too and My neighbor who voted for him said we need to come together...NO way will I ever come to that way of thinking! SO no, the void will get bigger and the hate will grow. My flag is hanging Upside down and in 3 days Im taking it down all together...Its NOT ONE NATION, anymore.

    1. I totally agree. this man spent a year and his whole campaign insulting and demonizing blacks, latinos, women, the other gendered, and encouraged violence towards protesters and now he calls for us to come together? this man make me want to puke and I will never support him.

  17. Thank you for articulating exactly what I'm thinking & feeling. I've been so distraught I haven't been able to work but since I'm a self employed artist tomorrow I must!
I'm feeling a strong desire to volunteer at Planned Parenthood - even if it's just mopping floors. I have to do something- obviously voting wasn't enough!
