because I can't think of a catchy title

I trust everyone had a good Thanksgiving Day with family and friends and no mention of the horrendous future of our federal government. We went into the city to our daughter's house...us, the kids, the grandkids...and had a fine time. Not everyone is in the picture, the other two men, Mike and Mikey, were in the living room.

Friday, my sister and I went to see Fantastic Beasts which we enjoyed very much except for me in the last 20 minutes or so when I really really really had to pee. I was out of that theater the moment the first credit popped up.

This is the time of year when the sun comes blasting in right in my face through the leafless tallow tree in the mornings as it rises. The weather here has been getting down in the 50s/60s at night and 70s/80s during the day. I'm happy to report that in the last week I've seen some chickadees and titmice and even a little warbler and a white wing dove and a cardinal was just on the totem bird feeder but they are still scarce. Just about everything has stopped blooming, even the orange cosmos almost which are looking very scraggly, except the roses and the morning glory bush and the shrimp plant and the milkweed.

Pecans have been falling steadily, still, not nearly as many as the year before last when I shelled until I was sick of it, sold over three hundred pounds of unshelled nuts, and still had a box of nuts left over.

Very windy out there today. Not sure what I want to get accomplished today. Usually I'd be out in the yard but I still have to finish the leaf plaque and revamp my display before next weekend. Or maybe I won't do anything but sit on the couch and read.

  1. Sometimes I comfort myself by remembering that even GOD said that we should take a day of rest now and then.
Yes. I pick and choose from the Bible. Not every thing in it is a lie. To everything there certainly is a season.

    1. No no, I didn't sell 300 pounds of shelled nuts. I sold the ones I didn't shell. I have 4 trees in my backyard and another one in my absentee neighbor's yard from which I collect the nuts.

  4. It's the perfect day to drift through from room to room, project to project, window to window.

  5. Grandsitting on Sunday and MOnday. So, not able to think about anything much. Everything in my yard is dead and except the deer who are eating the acorns.

  6. Still have alyssum blooming in a front garden and I appreciate them even more this year. They tell me that even though they are lightweight flowers, they are strong and and can still fight the elements.

  9. At least you're getting some nuts this year! Our flowers have pretty much faded, too.

  10. Glad you enjoyed the movie, in spite of having to pee. We've planned on seeing it but have cancelled twice because of health issues with my mother. Take care.

  11. Oh those pecans. Nothing more fun than picking them up and eating them. The squirrels are knocking on my windows for pieces I lay on the windowsill. Glad your Thanksgiving was nice as ours was too. I haven't said a word, but this year I bought everything pre-made and doctored it up. No one noticed and my lips are sealed since it only took about an hour as opposed to two to three days of non-stop cooking ;)

  12. My dad used to ship pecans to me and I miss him sorely this year!! I was going to buy some to make a pie, but it was cheaper to buy a frozen pie! My clematis is in full bloom again, while everything else has died off.

  13. Those girls are really lovely - fun to see them growing up (from a distance). My dad keeps yelling at his pecan trees to just go ahead & drop all the nuts - he's tired of them making a racket landing on his roof. And get off his lawn! Heh.
