selling out

Also last week, what I didn't mention was that we started on the selling of the property in the city. We were going to list it with a realtor but when we calculated what the 6% commission would be on a property that will basically sell itself, we balked. After talking with a neighbor who buys and renovates houses, we decided to see if we could sell it ourselves first and she volunteered to send out an alert to the other small builders that she knows and two of them have already contacted us.

I've only met with one so far and he gave us an offer. Not as high as we fantasized about getting but nothing to sneeze at either and while I would much prefer to have a small builder put two nice homes on the properties rather than 4 or more lot line houses, we are going to sell to whoever pays us the most. So the next several weeks will have me contacting small builders as well as large companies. We have a better idea of what the real value is but we hope to get a little higher bid before we decide. Nevertheless, we would like to have sold by the end of the month.

I can't believe I'm actually pursuing this. Cutting the last tie to the house, the property, the neighborhood. The base of operations of my life for so long. We will still have ties to the city because that is where our business comes from and our kids and their families are there.

And friends. Friends that we haven't really spent much time with because when we are there now, we are there to work and then get out. Now we will be able to go in the city for a day or two for fun.

My sister came over today to see the new shop and I guess I'm getting used to it because it didn't seem as huge as it did last week. That acre and a half, however, is looking bigger than ever.

PS...for those that asked, my wrist is much better, not completely healed but improving.

  6. A big step! I love that you're working with realtors to sell at the same time that we're looking for a place to occupy!

  10. Good luck with the house. I know it's hard. I'm pretty close to selling my parents' house which is the same one I grew up in. We'll see how well I'm holding together once the deal goes through:) I hope your wrist heals up soon.

  11. I like your positive spin - I think you probably WILL have more fun in the city if you're not there to work.
