my 5 essentials

Back when I was doing the river guide thing, canoeing and kayaking, I also assisted a friend on occasion who taught kayaking. He would always begin any soiree on the water by asking everyone if they had their 5 essentials...kayak, paddle, helmet, spray skirt, and pfd (personal flotation device commonly known as a life preserver). Also necessary but not considered essential was water and a snack.

I don't kayak anymore, have given away all my kayak gear, not that I wouldn't again but all my paddling buddies have either moved away or moved on in their lives, but I still retained the principal of the five essentials.

Instead of applying it to getting on the water, I now apply it to leaving the house.

  4. Yes, they all live in the same little pile on the desk. Except my glasses, which have to live on my nose.

  7. You are very together! I can't find my keys for the third day in a row, using my son's car...Glasses are glued to my face- camera is glued to my hand and my phone? where the hell is my phone?

  15. It's true. Those are the five essentials. We get so much rain around here that adding a pfd might not be a bad idea. :)

  16. Life changes and we (and our essentials) with it...

I guess many years ago, my 5 essentials were my pack (with extra everything and food), my tool box, my gun, my flak jacket, and a prayer.

Today... hm, I might have to blog about it ;-)

  17. I rarely think to take my phone with me.. but the camera.. that's an essential.

I'm SO far behind with reading posts.. and I don't see that changing in the very near future. I will get back into the swing of visiting again.. I hope. :)
