Because I don’t want the next picture to be at the top here's a leopard frog I saw out in the garden. Usually they leap away as soon as I get close but I guess this one thought it was invisible which it very nearly is.

Just so you know the crazy isn’t limited to the US, Canada also has its share of crazy. Canadian Conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre gave a press conference about military spending if elected…“We will reinstall a warrior culture, not a woke culture.” Because nothing says warrior culture more than a man dressed up in a white cowboy hat and a fancy white embroidered western style shirt.

A link from 1440, an interactive virtual art museum exhibit of 9 paintings by Vincent Van Gogh, all new to me. Click and drag to go from one painting to the next (it opens in the middle so drag left and right).

A supposedly current photo of Mitch McConnell looking considerably younger and wearing a pink shirt and bluejeans and holding a newspaper in a hospital setting with his wife Elaine Chao has been released by his office to show 'proof of life' claiming that a fall rendered him temporarily unconscious and that he has been recovering from pneumonia but all is well. The image, easily proven, is an old picture they are trying to pass off as current. The newspaper in the photo when it was first released and which dates the picture has since been edited out. This is all part of the continued effort to insist that McConnell is alive and cognizant, following the three republicans who all claimed, in almost exactly the same wording on the same morning, to have just talked to Mitch and he was completely engaged with the business of the Senate which followed the inquiries by the press and speculation that he had died or was comatose. It is in the interest of the republican party that he be alive until after the August deadline that will allow the governor to appoint a replacement instead of having to call a special election to replace McConnell in which a democrat or independent could win.

The FCC has approved plans for a start-up to launch a satellite that will include a 60’ mirror to reflect the sun’s light onto the dark side of the earth because we don’t have enough light pollution as it is I guess. The company says the mirror will light up a 3 mile wide area with a full moon level of brightness for about 5 minutes. They expect their customer’s to be solar farms (? solar panels can technically generate energy from a full moon but the energy produced is negligible) and rescue workers in emergency situations and they expect to charge $5K per hour. The company hopes to eventually launch 50,000 of these satellites in an already crowded orbital sphere around the earth.

It’s been raining off and on with some storming the last four days and too hot to be outside before that so I’ve been working on the shadow box project and I’m almost fully engaged and by that I mean when I’m not actually working on it, I’m thinking about working on it; what I need to do next, how to solve a couple of problems that cropped up. I got the last leaf painted, got the leaves cut out, cut out the initial foam core backings and got them all glued together, painted the background piece.
Now I’m working on spacing and trying to figure out how the fuck I’m going to put it all together. When I ordered the shadow box, the project was just an idea. I didn’t even have a drawing yet much less any of the elements. Most of the shadow boxes I was seeing were only a little over an inch deep which I didn’t think would be deep enough for what I had in mind and then I found one that was 1 5/8” deep. Perfect I thought and bought it. Now that I have most of the elements (I still need to do the painting of the robin) I’ve realized that the shadow box is deeper than I need, too deep. So that’s problem number one, the spacing not only between the elements but also from the glass in front and the background in back. The second problem is caused by the first; because it’s so deep it casts a shadow across the top of the interior. Another reason to bring the elements up closer to the glass which isn’t removable and which brings me to the third problem. How the fuck I’m going to secure everything in the shadow box working from the back, or securing everything to the back and sliding the whole thing in. I think I’ve solved the first problem, in my mind anyway, which I hope solves the second problem. The third problem is going to be the bitch. So if I haven’t been around it’s because I’m in the land of art as my husband puts it or sitting on the couch trying to read because the neurotic little dog paws at me constantly when I’m at the computer or work table and all over me when I'm on the couch.
Besides all that, we drove into the city last Sunday for a social gathering. Our friend Kathy of Dick and Kathy, our glassblowing friends who hosted the open house in December every year until covid closed it all down and then Dick’s health started to fail and you may remember he died last year, had a brunch for all us friends and artists who participated in the open house either as artists or helpers. Kathy is a wonderful hostess and it was so nice to see everyone again after 6 years, not counting Dick’s memorial where we sort of touched base but didn’t really socialize and to see Dick and Kathy’s incredible art collection again especially the new pieces they acquired in the interim.

I laughed and laughed at the photo of the Canadian politician. If ever the phrase "all hat, no cattle" applied, this is it. Those leaves for the shadow box are wonderful. Once you get all the issues sorted out (and I'm confident you will), I'll be anxious to see the result. We've had steady rain for two days, and I ought to have gotten a good bit of house cleaning and etc. done, but of course I haven't. Some, yes: but not enough.
