weird font substitutions and more progress on the luna moth mold

Blog weirdness...I had a reader ask me to go back to the font I had been using before I switched to Skia because she had a hard time reading it. I'm happy to oblige so I switched back to Comic Sans. I changed the font on the reading list post and either changed or posted the next one in Comic Sans. The post about Jade I definitely composed in Comic Sans and published it. The mobile version on my phone is showing that post in the very flowery and hard to read font Zapfino. And that's how it shows on my sister's laptop as well. I have no idea what the fuck is going on but if you switch from the mobile version to the web version on your phone (there's a link at the bottom of the post) it still won't be in Comic Sans but it will be a much easier to read font. At least it is on my iPhone. And to make it even weirder, it showed up in the font Wingdings for another reader. So if this post shows up in weird fonts for you please let me know. I may have to find a new font though I have used Comic Sans with no trouble for many years.

Sunday morning the dog was going crazy barking. I let her out in the little backyard and she zeroed in on a spot under the house barking madly. Called her in and she sniffed along the exterior walls baseboard and then climbed up on the loveseat to look out the window and bark, hackles up. I looked out. It was one of the possums that live under the house or under the Wicked Bitch of the West's container. I guess this one lives under the container, an old boy slowly making his way back to his den.

Friday afternoon's progress on the luna moth.

Sunday I had an uninterrupted day to work and got all the color into the design areas so basically the fussy part is done. The only thing left to do is decide on the background color, fill that in, and then put in the clear and white layers.

Monday I got the background in. Now I have to weigh all the leftover colors to determine how much weight of glass is in the mold so I can know how much more I need to add as the clear and white layers. I may add more of the background color first though.

  1. I'm seeing Comic Sans, for what it's worth. I didn't notice anything unusual in your previous fonts, either.

  2. I'm so unobservant that unless you posted in Greek, I wouldn't notice. But today's post looks fine to me.
Possums sure can create a lot of disturbance, can't they?
I can't wait to see how this luna moth evolves.

  3. Sweet little possum, a heloful , humble little being.
I have gigantic sized my text on computer so all blog fonts show up the same, eyes are grateful. Nice progress on the moth! Your process intrigues me every time!

  4. I didn't even know I could change fonts in blogger. I should definitely pay more attention. This font looks fine to me.
I really like possums, but worry about the the diseases they can transmit. They are good for keeping tics and other bugs under control but humans definitely have to avoid being bitten by them.
Love that luna moth art evolution.

    1. I compose in Open Office and then copy and paste into blogger. You can use any font you want though if you click on the letter symbol upper right a menu drops down of about 6 different fonts. If you clock on 'load more' there are dozens available but weirdly enough, not comic Sans.

Possums are very timid creatures preferring to run away or if they can't get away will play dead and let me tell you, you will really think it's dead. My dog was going beserk one day in the little fenced yard and when I went out to investigate there was a possum laying on the ground looking quite dead. I got the dog in the house and when I went out to dispose of the body, it was gone. They will only bare teeth when cornered. Only an idiot would manage to get themselves bitten by one.

    2. I love your possum playing dead story. They are such smart little creatures.
Thank you for the font info. I mostly compose on blogger and never checked their font choices. It may be time to play around a bit!

  5. Your post looks fine to me. I just spent a wee bit of time going back to old posts to delete tags that I've only used once. If you look at the side of my blog I have about a bajillion tags - it's ridiculous. Anyway, the format for some of the older posts changed & I had to fiddle with them so they'd look mostly ok (although who's going to go back & read a post of mine from 2009?). All of that to say: the ways of Blogger are many and mysterious!

That moth is going to be STUNNING.

  6. I read your art progress and it really makes me wish that I could be next door and bring over persimmon cookies in exchange for being able to sit and watch you work!! This whole glass thing is very unknown to me. As for font, Blogger will change my font when I add a photo and I have to go back into the html in the background and change it to 120% and I have no idea if it slightly changes the font. I just want it readable!!

    1. I'd take that trade any day because I'd be the big winner. You'd be bored in 10 minutes.

  7. The body of the text comes in as Comic Sans. The body of the text in the notes is Times Roman. I use bare bones Arial as it is really readable. Love the new glass piece.

  8. I find this font easier to read too. I keep meaning to fiddle with my blog, to update it a bit, but then find other claims on my time more pressing. Love following along with your art pieces.

    1. No need to apologise, not your fault. I'd rather you be able to read with ease.

  12. Hi Ellen,

Yes it's still in wingding, I'm calling it that maybe I'm using the wrong title. It's a series of symbols and not letters. It can't be read unless it is converted to some font that uses letters.
I just checked and on my, "WORD," word processor page it says the font is, Comic Sans, MS;fantasy. It may be happening because I used Ubuntu operating system instead of Windows. But i use Firefox web browser so I can't imagine it should be any different.
    Curious electronic devices.
No problem, I can read it.

    1. Weird. This is on you mobile device and not a desktop or laptop? I've never even heard of Comic Sans MS fantasy. I think on my next post I'm going to use several different fonts to see how the different ones translate on mobile devices as it seems the that is where the problem lies.

  13. I have a possum, too. Actually, I have two possums, and just once I saw a baby. It was about tennis ball sized, and as cute as anything. The adults come by at night and clear up any peanuts and seeds that have fallen from the bird seeders. They do keep the mess down, and I've also heard that they'll keep mice and rats away. I've never seen any of those since the possums showed up.
