a boring couple of days

I guess I'm going to have to ditch comic sans for the benefit of those who access my blog on mobile devices even though it's my preferred font. I'm choosing Avenir Medium for now but I may change it later.

This cold spell that blew in with much needed rain Saturday is going to last longer than the two days originally predicted so I'm not going to be able to paint the shadow boxes until maybe Tuesday or Wednesday when it warms up enough with lower humidity. A few days before it blew in Minnie felt it was too warm to be under the blanket so she settled for just her head to block out that pesky light so she could sleep.

Also Saturday I woke up with a pain in my hip near my tailbone, not really sure where as it wasn't completely localized, painful to walk and painful to sit but once sitting, it was OK. Sunday it was even worse making me think maybe it was a pinched nerve so I spent the day laying around dosing myself with ibuprofen but this morning it was almost completely pain free. So, no pinched nerve which is good.

Yesterday was the Christmas party at SHARE, a little pot luck lunch with the volunteers. I made an easy pasta salad to take...Israeli couscous, cucumber, green onion, toasted slivered almonds, dried cherries (I usually use dried apricots but didn't have any), and a little simple vinegar and oil salad dressing.

I had bought two new long sleeve shirts a couple of weeks ago and it's just now cold enough to wear them, one of which is more like a lightweight sweater, navy blue, which has to be hung to dry. I pulled it out of the closet to wear yesterday and had to use tape to pull off all the lint and dog hair that stuck to it from the washer. After today it will be relegated to lounge house wear only if that's what happens when it gets washed.

And then yesterday Abby asked me to lead the yoga class last night as her young son has the flu so I did that.

My plan for today is to start painting the shadow boxes for the trumpet flower pieces.

  1. Very glad the pain went away. And there's worse things than dull days. Good reminder that flu is still with us, too.

  2. That salad looks good!
So glad the pain decided to abandon your body. Aging is so weird. Things come and go. Hopefully they go, anyway.

  3. That salad looks amazing! I might have to try it. And for a minute I thought I had clicked on the wrong blog because that looks an awful lot like Olga - ha!

  4. Your salad looks good! Minnie is so funny, hiding from the light. Like Bug said, she DOES look like Olga in that photo! Thank goodness the hip pain didn't stick around.

  5. Your Minnie could be related to my Pebbles. Yesterday it was cold so when she curled up in the chair she wasn't happy until the blanket was covering her entirely

  6. The older I get the more pains seem to dictate my life! I don't always have time fr ain, it is quite inconvenient! No, the park has not closed yet and it has been a nightmare dealing with these people. I feel like I am being raped! They have an "investor" who fancies herself to be of superior intellect and I am done with her. She told me hat my park is not profitable accordin to the bank manager they are dealig with. I called her bluff and asked the man myself what seemed to be his problem with all the information we had provided. She is now leaving me alone. My camp worker told the man who has been walking around the park telling people he is going to make the park a better place to shut his mouth before I "denutted" him. My long standing campers love me. They plan to raise all the rates by 33%. They will lose most of the long term campers and the workers who always sty here when they have projects close by. But I no longer care, just want to go!

  7. I think that's the font that I use, what is wrong with it? I like it so would be disappointed not to be able to use it. Our Tess does the same as Minnie, I don't know is she thinks no one can see her or what.

    1. The mobile version that people see on their phones and tablets turns comic sans into an almost unreadable fancy script.

    2. Now you've said that it reminds me that a long time ago now I had someone saying to change my font because they couldn't read it but because it looked okay to me I just thought it was someone messing around with me.

  8. Really glad your back/hip pain subsided. It's always a bummer when a new pain shows up like that.
Minnie is so cute, hiding from the light like that. Dogs are so smart!
That couscous salad looks very yummy. I may have to add that to our menu soon.

  9. Yes, glad the pain went away. Glad too that you can get so much done. The font works well here.

  10. Pain comes and goes more freely with age, just a given. Never know what is going to blow out next. Long sleeves year round up here, I can not imagine summer clothes in the winter. I would like to though, cold weather is not the most fun.

  11. Some days I can't even remember what I did all day but the days do seem to fly by anyway! Glad your pain went away. It's always something...!

  12. I'm betting you got some painting done today -- or at least will tomorrow. It's been wonderful here: dry, with little wind and no humidity. It's going to be warmer tomorrow, but it still hit 70 or so today. I call it the five layer season: cold enough to bundle up at 7 am, and then a process of shedding through the day. It's still better than snow.

    1. I did! It was a perfect day for it. Got the final coat on the back board and two light coats of the frames. I'll examine them tomorrow and probably do one more coat on the inside edges. My sister calls this the changing season because you have to change clothes 3 or 4 times a day. And yes, much better than snow.

  13. That salad looks GOOOD!! I like Couscous, but Robert doesn't, so I know if I made your salad, I'd wind up eating the whole bowl by myself! LOL Hugs and have a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!

  14. I'm glad you could lead the yoga class without pain. I'm sure it was helpful in making sure the pain won't return.

  15. P.S. I like Avenir Medium. It's easy to read.

  16. I guess that many fonts are not working for people. Maybe someone should post a nice research about that! I am glad you are ready for the holidays. I also had some pinched nerve thing last week, but it went away!
