easing in

I finally shrugged off my lethargy this morning and mixed up 9 more colors in the modeling glass, all half batches because I'm still just planning more samples, and now have some mixed up for every color of opaque glass powder that I have, 18 in all. Tomorrow the plan is to make samples of all the new colors and then do some color blends. I'll probably finish the first feather that I started too.

I wrote that yesterday. After the first couple, I was squishing and kneading the ball of powder with just my left hand so as to keep one hand clean for opening the door, turning on the water, and handling the sprayer as I washed off the bowl and spoon (and hand) between colors. The last one or two I had a small pain in my left pinky finger which I ignored as it wasn't so bad and then about 8 PM last night it bloomed into a pain so bad at one point I was wondering if I had broken something in there. Couldn't straighten my pinky completely or curl it completely without extreme pain all the way down to the knuckle/joint in my palm and even motionless it hurt like hell. I finally got up just after I went to bed and taped my pinky and ring finger together which seemed to help. This morning it's much better though still some painful, mostly just an ache.

there's a dog in there somewhere

The dog is still a bit jittery from New Year's. The least little 'boom' noise, and often I can't even hear it, sets her off and if we are out on our walk she's straining at the leash to go go go home.

It finally cleared up yesterday and today is gorgeous too, on a warming trend though with nights in the 30s, which is how my lizard blood finally warmed up enough for me to move around some and get something accomplished.

  1. Progress. My precious Emmy is still upset by the fireworks. When I have things flare up I rarely think of aspirin, ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatories. They really work for me. I think why didn't I take something. I am still working on the study; it is mind numbing the things from years ago. But next, the art room and maybe some creating.

  2. Can I find shrugging off lethargy on Google? Christmas is over; new year is over. I'm not over, I'm still sinking.

  3. Our dogs were lucky; only a couple of booms New Year's Eve night. But a HUGE one the night before. We discussed at length; it actually sounded more like what we think a bomb would sound like (because the rumble afterwards was so long)...not fireworks or a gunshot, and definitely not thunder either. Weird.

  4. Isn't it odd how we can injure ourselves without even knowing how? Or doing the simplest things?
Aging ain't for sissies, is it?
Trying to shake off my own lethargy. Here I go...

    1. oh yeah, not for sissies! I was going to get the peas planted today but still too wet from the rain on Wednesday/Thursday morning.

  5. Have you tried a "hug" jacket for the dog? We had someone set off firewoorks (just small bottle rockets) across from our dock and all I though about was how hard this might be on my precious birds.

  6. I can't wait to see what you do with all those little balls of color! Yesterday I got obsessed with cleaning off the porch rails (they're plastic of some kind & had gotten moldy from the geraniums over the summer). Man that was a lotta bending over! I was pretty sore last night & predicted that I wouldn't be able to move today, but I'm just fine. Go figure.

  7. I hope your finger is all better now. These mysterious aches bloom and recede in my bones these days. Getting older sucks.

  8. I wonder if you have a little touch of arthritis in your hand. The knuckle on my right thumb will flare up from time to time, and it can be excruciatingly painful. Then, for whatever reason, it fades away. I'm almost convinced that the weather sets it off, particularly a change in barometric pressure. That could be pure imagination, but there has to be a reason for it coming and going as it does. Even though it's the hand I use most for work, I can go for days without work setting it off. Weird.

    1. I do have arthritis in the thumb joints of both hands and when I was cutting stencils all the time they hurt all the time. it will flare up when I'm model making too. I figured it must be arthritis in that pinky finger, all the clenching to knead the balls of color probably set it off. it's fine now. have you ever tried gin soaked raisins for when yours has flared up? I think it works pretty well. golden raisins, add gin to cover (can be cheap gin), let it evaporate, and eat 9 a day.
