strange dreams

Halfway through the first grandgirl's visit I find the only downtime I have is between 10 PM and 12 AM. Another busy day ahead today so here's the dream I woke up to this morning after sleeping late.

My grown daughter is standing on the porch wanting to talk to me. She needs consoling. I tell her let's go in where we can sit down and I direct her to the house. I tell her to go on in that I will be right there. I go to my shop and then get involved with some work. I think one of my grandgirls is there and I am instructing her how to do the work. Suddenly I remember my daughter waiting for me and I run out saying shit shit shit shit over and over. I run over to the house and the door is ajar and I go in. She's still there waiting for me but is very unhappy. She won't look at me or talk to me. She pulls away when I try to gather her in my arms. I'm apologizing profusely telling her how much I love her and how important she is to me. I feel terrible and I'm sad too that I have made her feel worse when she already felt bad. Finally she lets me take her in my arms and hold her and she starts haltingly to tell me what happened. I see behind her that her husband and kids have come in looking for her because they are impatient and he wants to leave to go do something. I wave them out silently. They can just wait a minute. She is upset because she and her husband went to a restaurant and the waitress was rude to her and her husband did not stand up for her. She starts feeling better and is ready to go back to her family so we walk out. I go into my house/studio and there are three people there and Marc is doing a design consultation/sales pitch because I was not to be found. I step in and talk to them and the next thing I'm leaving with two of them. We are in a car looking for a bookstore. We are in a residential neighborhood and the driver is looking at a map and indicates the place we want is that house diagonal to us and across the esplanade. Instead of driving on the street he tries to cross through the esplanade and because it's been raining we almost get stuck. We pull up in front of the house and when I get out I have to stretch a long step over the water filled street at the curb. The driver just walks in the door and the lady and I follow, me reluctantly because this does not look like a store. This is someone's house. The man walks deeper into the house. I'm very uncomfortable and tell the lady with me that we shouldn't be in here. We hear someone stirring in another room of the house.

Then I woke up.

FYI, I do not believe my daughter's husband would, in real life, not standup for her. He is protective of his family.

So now my grandgirl and I are off to help my sister clean house and unpack some after two weeks of carpenters and painters.

  1. Oh yes, we get these dreams about our lives, those things we can't fix, those situations that send us negative messages. We keep trying, don't we? Even when we sleep, we keep going over and trying to fix things.

  2. I hate dreams like that, they tend to haunt me throughout the day and keep popping into mymind at the oddest times.

  3. I agree with Kathy in that these kinds of dream tend to stick with a person all day. Can't really explain them but they felt so vivid and real. I remember these types of dreams from years and years ago...can't explain them still. This may be one of those dreams..

  4. Before I got to the part where you said you were dreaming this, I was thinking, geez, Ellen needs a vacation! lol Have a great weekend!

  5. Oh gosh, so many anxieties running through this dream, and how vivid it appears! Odd how often-times we can awake recalling little to nothing of what we dream, then suddenly one of these multi-coloured monster slams us into consciousness - ugh, hope you managed to shake off the aftertaste and enjoy your day, anyway?

  6. Must have been something you ate perhaps.I have been home for a week and don't sleep good since all my pets want to accompany me and stand on me.

  7. Ellen- It sounds like you have too much going on! Everything and others pulling you in different directions? That's very stressful.

Then again, maybe the dream is about something else entirely...

No matter, take some time for yourself, Ellen, first chance you get! :)

  9. I wish I was better at dream interpretation, as this is very interesting in many ways.

  10. Other people's houses often show up in my dreams. They usually have all these different levels - where you have to step up or down to go into a room - & they're maze-like. I like the part where you're comforting your daughter :)

  11. Very strange, indeed. My guess is you are worrying about your time split between work and family and thinking you are not giving enough family time. Also, that you are at the mercy of buyers, clients, who walk over you, don't listen and break the rules to gain what they want.

Just sorting it through while you "rest"!

But remember, never listen to me, I know nothing!

  12. I rarely pay any attention to my dreams... unless something really amazing happens in them! My Aunt will sit for hours with a dream dictionary although I've stopped telling her my dreams as she seems to love telling me bad things :)

  13. What an interesting combination of "stuff" in your dream! Are you escaping one situation to go on to another that you want to escape as well? It's cool that you could remember it all.

  15. This really was a very tidy dream, with a beginning and end and ordinary events in between.

    Mine are usually nightmares.

  16. What a great dream, though -- and by great I mean that you had one, first, and second that you remember it...

I very rarely remember my dreams.

Sounds like anxiety, to me. I hope you've found a way, today, to take a deep breath...

  17. I hate dreams like this. Dreams where I have missed an important moment. I hate moments awake like this even more. Finally, I have been guilty of not being gathered in arms that offered me comfort. Why do we do this to ourselves?

Studying Freud in school so the dreams stuff fascinates me :).

  18. If I can't get my pleasant dreams to continue to conclusions I like, I won't let bad dreams influence me either. When I wake from weird dreams, I get up and move on to real life. I blow them off as bad brain chemistry from something I ate. Long ago, I gave up attaching meaning to anything I dream.

  19. The meaning of dreams has a way of becoming clearer as the day progresses. The parts that remain vivid.. that is. This one sounds as busy as your life. :)
