this week

I had a long post written out about a couple of comments I got on FB on my blog post about the neighbor's storage container from a guy who has appointed himself as her protector who took exception to my observation of its effect on my view. They were rudely hostile, almost threatening, and before I could reply in my hot headed way, he deleted them. I considered talking to my neighbor about it but decided not to involve her and then wrote out a reply that I intended to post on his page but a cooler head has prevailed and I just blocked him instead.

So this week I have not accomplished anything I intended. My intention was on Monday to start playing with the glass working technique I took the class in last August. That didn't happen though I did start mixing up the glass powder into the clay like substance yesterday. I did get a little more weeding done though did not clear the flower bed. Went to yoga Monday and Wednesday though on Wednesday only two of us showed up for class. I planted more sprouting peas. And yesterday my sister and I went to an estate sale where I got a flying pig yard ornament, four elongated 'S' hooks for hanging things, and a hair dryer. I was looking for the hair dryer to use in my wax model making after someone posted in the glass casting group about using one to smooth wax models. It's worth a try as there are always places I can't get to easily. All for $9.

Oh, and I shelled the last of my pecan crop. Twenty and 1/3 pounds of shelled pecans, 3 large paper grocery bags full of shells.

Tomorrow is the start of our second weekend of the Open House and while it is currently 72˚ with intermittent sun, they are calling for heavy rain later today and chilly and wet on Saturday and Sunday, weather not really conducive for getting out except for the stout hearted. It looks to be one of those weekends where the participants will be in a bored stupor and thinking about all the other stuff we could be doing. But you never know. Maybe I'll be able to finish #5 in the Outlander series.

And George H W Bush was feted this week with three events/funerals. The husband and I were wondering when they were going to get around to bestowing sainthood on Bush, listening to all the accolades of a man who engaged in more than one criminal act during his presidency invading Panama, Iraq (and after calling for the Iraqis to rise up against Saddam left them twisting in the wind), and the Iran/Contra affair. The Toddler-In-Chief showed up for H W Bush's funeral handing his coat to the uniformed soldier escorting him and Melania to their seats as if he was Trump's personal valet and the Obamas, being who they are, greeted him, if not warmly, while all the other Exes gave him the cold shoulder and others in the next row behind shot daggers at him. True to form, he couldn't be bothered to participate in the prayers or hymns (of course he wouldn't know them since he's never attended church and can't read) and he left before the casket was even out of the church. He's getting good marks by the press for his behavior. Pretty sad when the president gets good marks just for acting the way any normal person would act but today he is back to indulging in his tweet shit storms. Apparently Mueller is supposed to drop some bombs today.

A few miscellaneous pictures...

my neighbors still have their hummingbird feeders up and although the hummers have migrated out, the bees are loving it

buddha contemplates the flowers tickling his nose

I believe this is the closest these two have ever sat next to each other

not sure if this was a meeting of the minds or communal distrust of the person taking their picture

  1. Well, this is why I blog anonymously...for the most part. I live in an area of people who take their opinions to the point of making war and want to avoid that.

    1. I rarely get stuff like this and it wouldn't have been a problem if I had not posted it to FB but a lot of my readers get to it from there. Most people know exactly who I am and what I think.

  2. Love the dog and cat. The dog looks very proper and British and the cat looks like it came out of a "cathouse."

  3. Love that bee-infested hummingbird feeder! And I LOVE the pig yard ornament. My mother collected pig-related things so they always make me think of her. I hope your weekend is better than expected!

  4. I am rather timid and I wish I had you here today. I went to the next door neighbors house bearing a jar of homemade pickles and two sweater coats for their boston terriers that they leave outside in the coldest weather. She was in there but didn't answer the door. I was going to nicely tell her that those dogs are short haired and cannot tolerate these temperatures. Nicely remember. I will go again and try and be nice. Third time I am calling the animal control unit of the city about them not providing shelter for the dogs. I was up after midnight letting my weenie out and the dogs were still there outside shivering. I couldn't get back to sleep. I am getting pissed. Hate to have problems with the neighbors. So, going to be a bitch if I have to. Donna@gather

    1. My neighbor and I talked about rude neighbors today. We have one who doesn't subscribe to trash pick up, but helps himself the his neighbor's trash cans. My neighbor wishes she were "tough like you" and could tell him to knock it off. He's not the only one who does this, but no one "borrows" mine. I guess I'll let it go and see if my neighbor gets a spine. And since I like my neighbor, maybe I'll just call the trash company and rat him out.

    2. I do not understand why people have dogs and then won't care for them. dogs are pack animals and they need to be with their pack, and warm. I would just call animal control since she will probably hostile to you when you point out her cruelty. animal control won't tell them who phoned in the complaint. or they shouldn't.

  5. Kitty is looking old. How old is she? I had a day like your week (?) today. It sure seemed a week long. So, I've sucked it up and resolved to begin again tomorrow. Or maybe today. I'll go give it a blog!

    1. she's going on 12. I've noticed recently that she doesn't seem as good about cleaning herself, I'm having to cut out mats of hair and I never used to have to do that. I do brush her though not every day. she was always aloof, not a lap sitter, still isn't, but she does seem to want more affection lately, even sleeping with me about half the time.

  6. Flying pigs and guzzling bees, well-behaved pets, lizards and frogs.
Your world looks quite familiar to me.
Good luck this weekend! I hope the weather doesn't keep everyone away.
And I don't recall you saying anything horribly negative about that storage container or your neighbor. What the hell?

    1. what the hell, indeed! for some reason this man has viewed me with hostility since the first time he laid eyes on me even though I have a good relationship with the woman who owns that lot. and he doesn't like my little dog either.

  7. This post has me contemplating how different the neighbor situation is in apartment buildings in big cities. People are most apt to be pleasant and mind their own business in order to created psychological space in place of physical space.

    1. she and I get along fine. the guy is just a friend of hers with no authority as far as I'm concerned. as regards the placement of the container at the back of the property, it could be worse. I'd rather have the container than for them to decide to build a house on the empty lot.

  8. Love the bees, and Minnie is so well-behaved to sit so close to a cat. Olga would eat the cat, or at least attempt to.

I didn't think your post about the shipping container was all that negative, actually. Our responses were more negative than your original post! If anything you were looking on the bright side, about your daylilies turning toward your yard. But in any event, I think you did the right thing by not prolonging the skirmish and simply blocking the commenter.

  9. Making all kinds of goodies this week, already made a cake with old nanas, oranges, lemons and cranberries that need used. Headed for a few candies maybe tonight. I put these plates all over a few areas for homeless, and shared with servicemen and homebound.Got a big list so keep on sharing. Not bad for a man who loves his matzo also. LOL

  11. There is nothing attractive about a storage container - especially one the size of a rail car. I still think we should sneak over in the dead of night and paint a mural on it. There always seems to be someone who considers his-or-herself the Police of All Things. I love your flying pig! It's glorious! I am finding myself close to horror overload, when it comes to the Idiot in the WH. This country has mastered the art of amnesia, when it comes to politics. If it happened more than two years ago, it's gone. They all walk on water after enough years have passed. Of course, compared to the current Idiot in Charge, maybe it's not surprising.

    1. I'm all for the mural. I might even be able to talk the owner into it.
