the dream

(if you didn’t read yesterday’s post first, you might want to)

The Prophetic Dream:

About 3 years into my now unpleasant marriage, I started having a series of disturbing dreams.  These culminated in a dream whose quality was very different from any dream I had had or have had since and eventually, I was motivated to file for divorce.  This is the dream.

The setting seemed to be a castle or medieval building of some sort, built of stone.  I was dressed in a heavy long gown of a forest green color with long full sleeves, and I was hurrying down an outside roofed corridor alongside the wall of the building.  I had a male companion who was in front of me and there was an air of urgency and fear about us and I kept looking back over my shoulder as if I expected to be apprehended.  We entered a door into a room at the end of this corridor.  The room was empty but we ran to the center of the room and started climbing a set of invisible stairs.  My companion first and then me.  As he climbed and reached the ceiling, he continued up and passed through.  I followed and as I passed through the ceiling, I emerged into the floor of a quiet deep forest.  My companion was nowhere to be seen but I knew the direction to go and hurried off.  Then there was a scene shift and I was back in the castle/building standing in a room on the second level in front of a large window looking down at a man who was standing on the expanse of meadow looking up at me.  He was holding up his arms in supplication and he had no hands.  I was overwhelmed with a feeling of loss and this feeling stayed with me after I woke.

  1. hello ellen, somewhere out there is someone who would have a go at this dream and unpack it for you. but it looks like you unpacked it for yourself. wow! what an overwhelming dream, no wonder it has stayed with you as clear as glass all these years - it was so clear to me. phew! have a peaceful evening. steven

  2. First of all, happy anniversary! 33 years. Wow.

The dream is amazing. Clearly you have had many lifetimes around Marks and Marcs. Sometimes (in the psychic world) we say that people look for "markers" (literally the word) of their soulmates. And so you did and so you have and now look at you.

    To Mark and Ellen! Bravo!!

  3. steven - It was so clear, I can still envision it.

Reya - I've often thought it was a warning from a previous me. The other underlying emotion to the sense of loss was that I had no one else to blame.

  4. Strange - it it obviously very clear in your mind. When I was so desperately unhappy in my marriage (but trying not to show it) I often had dreams where I was looking for a toilet, but there were never any doors. It was that anguished feeling of being expose, of having no where to dispose of negativity. The sub-conscious is an amazing thing.

  7. Happy 33 anniversary! A HUGE milestone in today's times for sure. I thoroughly understand how this dream stayed with you and influenced your decision to divorce. Dreams are so much a part of our inner thoughts and seem to bring to the surface the things we most fear or need to change in some way. Super interesting!

I found you over at a hazy moon...glad I did!

  8. I am intigued. I have had dreams in the past that have stayed with, not as much for the content, but the feelings they evoked. I know what you mean about the dream being so clear.

  9. There are few dreams that stay with you in such a way - that you remember the feeling of it years later. I can understand why it helped you make your decisions.

  10. Oh, you are a rotten tease. I suppose I have no option but to come back tomorrow!

I often have vivid and striking dreams and I often incorporate them into my poetry, thus the label "dreams." ;-)

  11. I agree with Reya that this has the feeling of a past life/self, but no matter - the meaning of it was clear and the emotions impelled action.
