Today is as still as Wednesday was windy, not even a tiny breeze nor tinkle from a wind chime.
I am overwhelmed. Thursdays are my fullest busiest day of the week and I have no time for online shenanigans. This morning it seems every blog I read posted yesterday and my inbox has about 30 new emails.
The little wren is pissed. She has added a lot to her nest in the light fixture over the past four days. When I got home from SHARE yesterday she was in the house, in the fixture, and flew out the open back door when I came in the garage door. This morning, she is perched just outside the open back door scolding me sitting at my desk and Cat laying on the big table. When I went in the kitchen to fix breakfast she flew in and perched on the desk lamp
and when I was sitting at the dining room table where I have a line of sight to the fixture, she was in there rustling around rearranging the leaves of her nest. When she flew out I got up and closed the door. It won’t do for her to actually lay eggs so I’m going to have to keep the door closed from now on. Or else get a screen door.
So Thursdays…SHARE and we were busy but not overwhelmed, probably just over 30 food orders, mostly bigger ones. I forgot to ask but that’s about how many when it’s steady and I can keep up with refilling the baskets (A, B, C, D, E according to the size of the family) so that all the guys have to do is pull the appropriate basket(s) off the shelf when a food order comes in to which they add all kinds of other stuff from their section and from whatever produce donations came in that morning.
Yesterday after SHARE I took the accumulated cardboard from the day to the recycling container, on the way home stopped by to see my friend who is battling cancer and bring her whatever produce or milk that is left over (she and her husband have custody of three of their grandchildren), fixed lunch, after lunch took about a 30 minute nap, walked the dog, fed the cats, hung out with Paisleigh for another half hour, and then hightailed it to yoga. When class ended, Susan came over and said don’t rush off, Bruce has something for you. As we were leaving I walked to the truck with Bruce, he reached in and handed me this
with this lovely inscription.
I show off pictures of whatever art thing I’m working on with them and Stephanie and I guess Bruce really liked the birds I did on the notecards and so he gifted me this book. So now, I need, want, to do a little painting of one of the birds in the book for him as a thank you.
Walking the yard after breakfast I was met with two surprises, the first amaryllis and the first iris.
All plans to work in the yard today have evaporated because I have a primary care office visit this afternoon which I have to leave for soon. And now I’m back and all is well and I learned I have aged out of mammograms and poop tests/colonoscopies unless I’m having actual problems or if I just want to get my boobs squished and poop in a jar for old times sake.
I doubt I’ll be able to catch up on all the posts I have missed yesterday and today because tomorrow y’all will have posted again so I'll just sally forth into the future.

Codex: lovely gift. Weren't you just complaining about lack of comments? Try removing the nesting material? I'd probably find a way to let her have her chicks.
ReplyDeleteI could remove the nesting material and put it outside but she wouldn't recognise it. Denied access to a started nest, she'll start over. The best thing I can do is deny her access to her current attempt in the house. Wrens have abandoned more than one nest in my garage when there is too much human activity. One even had four little eggs in it. I've also had several successful broods raised in my garage. Depends on where they build the nest.
DeleteI enjoyed reading about your feathers fiend and seeing your spring blooms. Then you made me laugh at your relief of not having to have your boobs squeezed or your poop in a jar 😂🤣
ReplyDeleteHi Connie. It appears the little wren, denied access to the house has started a new nest in the pot of maidenhair fern just outside the back door.
DeleteWouldn’t it be fun to be able too share the house with the wren family (except for having to leave the door open at all times... and all the bird crap). We had that wonderful bird book but left it behind when we left North America. I can’t imagine why you would want to give up having your boobs squished and pooping in a jar.
ReplyDeleteThat would be fun, but dealing with the bird poop would not be and I see the little wren already left me a present on my desk.
DeleteI know, right? Who doesn't love getting their boobs squished and pooping in a jar.
Be sure to post a picture of the birds you paint.
ReplyDeleteWill do.
DeleteMy suggestion is to get a screen door ... it keeps the birds out, but allows any breeze to come in!
ReplyDeleteSimple solution, right? But I don't like having to look through the screen when the door is closed. Could always just take it down and store it in the garage once the weather becomes warm enough to justify having the AC on.
DeleteI was not aware that women can age out of getting mammograms. That's good news. I guess. I have been told I no longer need to get colon cancer screening. Hurray!
ReplyDeleteYou do have busy Thursdays.
I love your amaryllis and iris. I want mine to bloom now!
What a sweet gift for your friends to get you.
There was a white board in the room with preventive tests on it and the age range and mammograms and colonoscopies were on it 40 - 75. I asked my doctor about it and she said there came an age where it was better to not do certain tests due to age and possible reactions unless there are actual problems or symptoms.
DeleteThursdays are long.
Well, that's good news about the mammograms and colonoscopies. I remember when my mom aged out of mammograms, she was so relieved!
ReplyDeleteI can see why you can't allow the wren to nest in your light fixture. That would be a mess. Maybe removing the nesting materials would discourage her enough to make her go elsewhere, or maybe she's just start again.
That bird book was a great gift!
As for blogland, it gets away from me too.
She said if I wanted one anyway she would schedule it. Nope, no thanks.
DeleteWOW Ellen, little bird on your lamp and flowers blooming so beautifully! Absolutely lovely! Well and truly needed! It is another half lit day here, cold , darkish and same -o same- o. Thanks for the bright spot!
ReplyDeletePlenty of sun here but unfortunately heat and humidity come with it.
DeleteI would worry about a fire if the bulb was on in that fixture with the nest and bird poop on that pretty pink glass! I think it's good that you will shut the door so she will build a new nest outside. Your flowers are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI have not and would not have turned the light on for that reason. I miss having the door open when weather permits which is not for very long in the spring so I'll have to see about a screen door.
DeleteI feel very virtuous that I only post once a week, and so don't add to your stress (much anyway).
ReplyDeleteMy stress thanks you.
DeleteScreen door is the most practical but theymake screen door window nets with self adhesive magnets. DYI that was really simple. (Had an odd shaped window)
ReplyDeleteCodex: above
DeleteI've looked at the ones that you pull open and retract, expensive as I recall. That would be perfect because I don't like looking though the screen (half glass door) when the door is shut. Probably I'll just get a regular screen door and take it down and store it in the garage summer and winter.
DeleteYou can do that with a magnet screen very cheap and easy. Have a look. Codex
DeleteThat book's a great one; I have a copy, although I rarely consult it these days. I like your idea of painting one of the birds in it; be sure and share the painting with us. I had no idea there was a cut-off date for mammograms. I haven't had one for a few years anyway, but I'm well past the age when discontinuing is suggested.Very interesting. I hope your little wren finds new digs. It would be fun to have it in the house, but I can well imagine complications.
ReplyDeleteWas down at Brazoria today, and the Indian paintbrush are beginning to really come up. The mountain laurel's in bud, too. Here comes spring!
Haven't had a chance to really look through it yet. Working outside today. I believe she has shifted her nest making to the pot of maidenhair fern outside my back door.
