miscellania and heavy karma

New AC is in and instead of the round condenser it's rectangular.

All those little peaches are ripe. I took some to my neighbor who babysits some of her grandkids and I also made this Monday night.

After reading about the high price of tomatoes and so no tomato sauce this year, my friend Debbie brought me these from their garden, not pretty she said but they taste good. Guess what I did yesterday and what I'll be doing today.

I also did the week's grocery shopping, put up 7 ears of sweet corn that my neighbor gave me from his brother's farm, and made a pizza for dinner. Needless to say I was very busy yesterday and did not work on the box.

I got my summer hair cut last week.

Random thought from the other day...This country is engaged in a big karmic adjustment I think. If countries have souls of a sort, this country was brought into being through genocide and slavery and repression (which continues to this day). The US is too far down the rabbit hole now, not just guns but weapons of war and violence, we increasingly turn our murderous tendencies on ourselves unable to accept that all people are created equal and have the same rights. We are frozen, incapable of, unwilling to stop it. Who and how much do we sacrifice before the debt is paid? Can the debt be paid? That doesn’t mean we of good heart should give up the fight. That’s part of our karma.

Republicans are pretending to care and negotiate in committee on some common sense restrictions like raising the minimum age to 21 to buy an assault rifle (banning them won't even be considered) and institute a waiting period, ban high capacity magazines, expand background checks to private sales, and institute a 'red flag' law, none of which will prevent anyone from buying these weapons but may prevent mass shootings and yet, these very same republicans will vote against any bill that makes it to the Senate even though the vast majority of Americans are in favor of more regulations. After Matthew McConaughey addressed the nation at the White House press conference on gun violence, a Newsmax reporter accused him of grandstanding.

The January 6th Committee is starting their public hearings tomorrow and Fox has said it will not air them even though they aired Benghazi ad nauseum. Republicans have announced they will launch counter programming and already have their disinformation machine and Trump's staunch allies churning out lies that the committee is illegitimate. They seem determined to keep citizen against citizen, to destroy the rule of law, and to grind our democracy into dust.

So I don't end on such depressing thoughts as those here's a few picks from around the yard.

Hairstreak butterflies were migrating through. They are so tiny, this one about 3/4”.

Thirsty bees drinking from the small pond full of parrot feather.

A little tree frog on the side of the house.

  1. Thank you for the relief of a few nature pictures, and gift tomatoes!

  2. I just came in from outside where I cleaned the chicken nests, repotted a bird's nest fern, stuck another plant in a pot of dirt, picked more beans, and hauled the giant bag of potting soil to a shed. I am so done. I'm going to take a shower and finish the tomato pie I'm making. I wonder if I keep busy and am always listening to audio books or podcasts to keep my mind off the exact same things you talked about. I believe absolutely as you do- that this country, being born of such horror, will never pull itself up. I don't know about karma but I do know that the only thing that might possibly save us is some restitution and and I also know that this country will never, ever go there. We're fucked and we've done it to ourselves.
I wish that there were more grandstanders like Beto O'Rourke and Matthew. So many more.

    1. I so agree with you. And they're trying to whitewash all of the slavery/hangings, etc. that exists in our history. That won't make up for the harm we've done to people! Truly... and it's still going on because people won't believe that we're all the same--just different color skin.

  3. I am extremely curious, nay nosy, about your new A/C unit. Is that a mini-split or is that how they're making air conditioners in general these days?
As a country, we're contaminated by the original sins of genocide and slavery. I don't know how a nation comes back from that. Almost completely ignored is the fact that second amendment arming the "well regulated militias" was for the slave states who did not trust the federal government to put down rebellions by the enslaved people. The states wanted to make sure they could handle it.
I wish we were younger, so leaving here would be an option.

    1. This make and model is rectangular. I don't know if that's the industry standard now or not. This is supposed to be more efficient and safer in that stuff can't fall into it from above and some other important part is facing the house protecting it.

I agree about the reason for 2A re the slave states. It was mostly to mollify them but also because the new nation didn't have a standing army and the population needed to be called up to protect it from outside aggression, NOT for self protection (not mentioned at all) and not to fight against the American government. People are so willfully ignorant.

  4. Thanks for the great photos! Whenever anyone speaks in favor of gun control they get accused of grandstanding or "politicizing a tragedy." It's just a way to divert attention away from what they're saying.

  6. It won't be long before fresh Niagara peaches are available here, and the first peach of the year tastes like no other, with juice dripping down your chin! Perhaps we too will make a pie. As for the gun situation in your country it boggles the mind. One could close one's eyes and imagine one were in Afghanistan, and with the attack on women's rights that comparison becomes all too terrifying.

  7. That karma idea seems to be spot on. And those tomatoes look LOVELY.

  8. Your karma idea is fascinating. Problem is, the ones perpetuating the karma inducing behavior seem to be to skating by without consequences, and this makes me insane. Where is our DOJ? What a disappointment Merrick Garland has turned out to be.

    1. I think the individuals will have their own karma to deal with. The karmic path of an entity like a nation doesn't deal with individuals but with the soul of the nation, the collective, of which we all are part. Does that make sense?

  9. That tree frog is sooo cute! (said with a shudder as I really don't like frogs or other slimy, creepy insects/animals!) LOL But photographed on your pink siding, he was cute. Hugs...

  10. Fox is ready to dismiss the whole Jan 6 committee findings, hopefully the DOJ will have the last say if not then I will say we will get what we got coming....sadly. The sins of the fathers still steam rolling over us. 200 plus years and we are all paying the price! ONE Democrat voted against the new Gun legislation passing thru the house....

  12. I thought they did a good job of presenting the facts at last night's hearing. They were clear and calm and had the right mix of video and testimony to support what they said.

  13. I love the pink and green. Yes, We all joined together to watch the filming last night. Yes, it was horrifying, but it was so good to get it out there.
