still winter even if some things are not convinced

It's Saturday and I have not done a single asana since Monday, never mind a whole routine. Thursdays I don't have time having to be up, coffeed, breakfasted, and out the door to get to SHARE by 9 but the other days I really have no excuse except I've been sleeping late or reluctant to get out of the nice warm bed on cold mornings or I'm just being lazy and anyway by the time the house warms up (we turn the thermostat down when we go to bed) it's inching towards my coffee hour. As you can see I have many excuses.

Cold again today, just now in the mid 30˚s, but should be warmer than yesterday. This is what Minnie thinks of it.

Still windy though and it's the wind that makes it so awful so I don't guess I'll be venturing out much today beyond giving the dog her walk. I really need to clear off my work table here in the house so maybe I'll do that or work on updating my website.

Later...the wind has finally died down and it has warmed up some out there, warm enough for a stroll around the big backyard picking up some of the biggest fallen branches. There's a dog path across the back end of the property

and the pasture behind us looks like it will be cut for hay soon. Banana trees are still solid even if all the leaves are brown. The invasive little red woodland lilies that are taking over large swaths of the yard are starting to bloom.

Haven't been in the front as it's on the north side and in shade. Not very inviting in the winter but will be really nice with the new deck come winter's end.

Sunday...As it turned out I spent the day Saturday updating the current work page on my website, rearranging the menu on the left, adding some things and removing some things. I decided to keep the prices on. I even added the luna moth though without a price as I'm not sure I want to sell it depending on if I make it again because if I do and it comes out better I'll want the stand for it. But everything seems to be working at least on my phone. It won't refresh on the desktop yet. I still have so much to do to finish making all the changes on other pages but one whole day dealing with code is enough. We'll see what today holds. Maybe I'm on a roll.

It's already warmer than the last two days. Another stroll through the yard mid morning revealed the easily fooled native wild peach tree putting out a few buds

and an egg case of some sort nestled in an azalea.

  1. I wonder what the egg case is about. Let us know if you find out. Those little lilies may be invasive but they're pretty. So long since we've had flowers growing, it's good to see yours.

    1. I'll keep my eye on it and hopefully will get a clue. I'm thinking probably a spider egg case although it's pretty big, I'm guessing ¾" in diameter.

  2. A few of my early blooming azaleas have started putting out buds and flowers. I wonder if they'll survive the cold we're getting and will be getting. No wind here though! And finally the sun is out which makes everything more cheerful, of course. It is so hard though, to get out of bed. Glen got up at four to go duck hunting and I just wonder...how? WHY? He must love it.

    1. I don't know how well my azaleas are going to do. Last winter's arctic vortex really did a number on them. The ones I covered looked great right after but dropped all their foliage months later. The ones I didn't cover are looking pretty good except for one which has been struggling for a couple of years. But no imminent flowers.

    1. I think I'll be joining her under there today. Overcast, wet, and dreary out.

  4. The weather has been a bit crazy everywhere lately. There's even a wildfire in Big Sur in WINTER! It's hard to figure out what's going on anymore. I'm glad things warmed up there. Here too, 73 degrees yesterday. That's really a record-breaker for us, and not a cloud in the sky. Hope the weather stays warm and comfy for you, Minnie, and the flowers.

    1. January is usually our dreariest coldest month. It's almost over.

  5. I am with Minnie. Haven't set a foot outside in 48 hrs, just one big grey and wet mess here. But the almond trees are budding and the hazels are in full catkins flowering, lovely sight. Stay warm.

    1. The day time temps are creeping up, a little warmer every day but today is overcast, wet, and dreary. Not conducive to venturing out regardless of the temp. A day for reading.

  6. When I lived in the trailer, the super finally convinced me to leave the temp the same day and night. He said I saved more money not making the heat exchanger bring the temp back up. When I finally had two years to compare, he was right. The only buzzard!

    1. Hmmm. Interesting. It doesn't really take that long to raise the temp 6 degrees so I find it a little hard to believe that leaving it at 68 would take less energy. Our heater is propane anyway.

  7. A path used over and over by a pet or even a wild creature is called "a path of desire" by some people.
If it's warm enough for buds on fruit trees it's not cold. Cold is freezing and icy as far as I'm concerned.
I wish I could have your winter temperatures, maybe not so much your high summer.
I hardly go out at all now, except to fill the bird food containers. And yes, I certainly turn the heat down at night, I couldn't sleep in a warm bedroom.

    1. I'm not sure what made the path, not my dog as it runs all the way across the back end of the property, pausing by the compost pile before it disappears into the wild space. A dog I'm sure but I've not seen it. Our blood is thin down here on the Gulf Coast plains. Gets in the 50˚s and we bundle up.

  8. I checked out your website and I really am so impressed. Your work looks terrific and you have the pieces displayed so well. Really amazing!

    1. Oh, thanks. I hope you got the revised version. My desktop still won't refresh to it. Might have to go and delete whatever.

  9. I'd be interested in learning about that egg pod/thing too! And I love your little red lilies. They make me realize we only have California poppies growing in our yard, and they're not even blooming yet. We are very dry here so no grass. I have Iris bulbs that bloom each spring, but that's all other than trees.

  10. Minnie & I feel the same way about the weather. I was a total slug yesterday - wrote my blog and read a book & that was about it. Surely I did more than that? Oh, I did dishes & packed my lunch. Ha!

I can't wait until we have some signs of spring outside - since I have my new phone I think I'll be able to take better photos. We shall see. In March or April (we're just a wee bit behind you).

    1. I think reading is going to be the only thing I accomplish today.

  11. There's something in east Texas that rolls the end of ferns into little balls that look much like your egg case or whatever. Apparently they create a cozy little 'house' for themselves to get throught the winter. They're the insect version of Minnie (and us!)
