time to get with the program

Well, it's happening again. I'm being dragged kicking and screaming from my little cave into the modern world. Marc finally followed up on his threats of getting me an iPhone. I was happy with my little flip phone. It was uncomplicated and did what I needed it to do...make phone calls, text, and tell me what time it is. Plus, it fit nicely in any of my pockets. And since I don't carry a purse, and we all know how mostly useless pockets are in women's pants, this is a big deal.

I haven't activated it yet. Right now I'm making a list of all the phone contacts in my old phone since I may have to enter them all in by hand on the new phone. But even if there is a way to magically transfer my contact list, it's not a bad idea to have a list of phone numbers elsewhere other than the phone.

I'm guessing hoping that I can transfer all my data from the iPad to the iPhone via my iMac. iYiyiyiyi!

So long little purple Lazer. It was a good run.

  1. You are going to love all the things you can do with your iPhone Ellen. Just have to figure out how to do them. Ha! Need a teenager to show you how. It's a whole new world out there in the cloud (I still don't know exactly what it is, but I have it.)

  3. It will slowly become addictive like so many other bits of technology and it wiil add to your costs! I can see your reflection in the phone which is nice. I wonder if there is someway we can capture our lists as an electronic file on our PC???

  4. I spent the first two weeks screaming "FUCK YOU" to my phone, but now I love it, Even bought it a hard core protective jacket to wear, It can drop and not break, it can go under water and still be OK. You may want to consider that, too.It is called "lifeproof", and is a hideous pink, therefore theft proof! It is a drag when it is not protected, anything can happen especially if you go out into the world without a satchel!

  5. I have android and changed my phone recently. My contacts transfered across automatically from my Google account. I think iPhone have similar so you should be OK in future. I do have an Ipad. My daughter has iPhone and uses my account to download apps. I find her photos download automatically to my ipad. Apple assumes we're the same person. Still I can keep track of her at college that way 😊. I don't know whether she realises

  6. I must be the only person left who doesn't have an iPhone.

  7. Get a rubberized case and some screen covers right away. It will protect it when you drop it. I KNOW about this first hand. I was content with my flip phone, too. But I needed to be able to go online at my dad's to keep up with the reservations. I appreciate a lot of the features shown to me by grandchildren and great nieces! My favorite one is the audio book feature. I can download a book and listen on the Bluetooth or with earbuds while I do other things. You will like it.

  8. And your old one was such a nice purple. Fancy-dancy iphones don't come in purple.
But, full disclosure, I have a big old new iphone now, too.

  9. My daughter made me get one at the start of summer. She then posted my pic with it on Facebook making fun of me for waiting so long.

  10. I did it the other way around - got an iPhone first & then an iPad. I was excited that all of my apps are available for download - I didn't have to go looking for them.

When I went from my flip phone to an iPhone, I carried both of them for a while & just entered numbers as I needed them (but that was because the iPhone is a work phone so I didn't cancel my personal plan right away).

  11. Well, I'd say you certainly got your use out of it! I'm still using my first-generation iPhone, which is an antique by today's standards. I have no plan to give it up until I have to.

  12. Like you I wasn't ready but someone else decided it was time for me to get one. It has been almost 4 months and I am just now feeling comfortable with a few of the features. I keep looking for ways to make sense of where things are...with limited success. For me it's definitely a work in progress!

  13. Well, good for you and the rest of the world. I still have my flip phone, and have no plans to change it. For one thing, it does fit in my pocket, and it's as sturdy as can be. Since I'm on the docks every day, I don't need some precious little snowflake of a phone that I need to worry about protecting.

I can make phone calls. I can text if I have to. Otherwise, I feel absolutely no lack. I don't need to play Words with Friends or Candy Crush. I have a camera for photos, and I can wait until I get home to check email. I''m perfectly happy.

The way I figure it, the saying should be, "Invention is the mother of necessity," rather than vice-verse. Some genius invents this stuff, and then sells it to us on the basis of our unrealized need.

Of course, I just took the "are you a millenial" quiz, and scored 12 on a 1-100 scale. So there's that.
