more progress and a different houseguest

Monday dawned with a clear blue sky and I planned to do some work outside but by the time I got my errands for the day done...garbage to my sister's house (because we don't have garbage pick up here in the county, you have to pay extra so I just bag it up and take it to Pam's), recycling to the drop off station, and accumulated newspaper to the vet... and got out there to do some weeding in the afternoon it had clouded over and it was overcast yesterday as well though it's still warm, was supposed to rain but hasn't really. Cold front came in last night a little early since it wasn't supposed to get here til today and it's overcast today.

Rocky got the last of the sheetrock work done and sprayed the texture yesterday so next on the agenda was selecting a paint color (white to pick up the white dots on the 'flower' trim tile – done, though I still have to buy the paint) and buying the tile/grout/spacers (planned for Thursday). Also needed to decide finally on the flooring (done – going with the roll vinyl).

Now it's just incidentals...light fixture, glass shades, faucets, grab bars, soap dish, baseboards (which I'm thinking might be stained to match the vanity and cabinets), and door and window trim (maybe the door and window trim too).

It looks like the kids may not be moving in after all, at least not right away. Their septic system was put in Monday (yay!) and they are concerned about the two dogs and three cats being left to adjust to a new place all by themselves and since they now have a flushing toilet and a battery powered light they're going to camp out for a few days and see how it goes. Plus s-i-l Mike is working nights for a few shifts and needs a quiet place to sleep during the day which won't be here until the bathroom is finished. Their bearded dragon Gypsy, though, did move in since she has to have electricity for her warming lights and hot rock.

Today is the 5th of the 6 watercolor classes and I have no idea what she plans for us today. And yoga tonight. If I don't forget like last week and if it's not pouring down rain.

  1. It's cooooooold out today. I was going to pull weeds too but that is out of the question. Yeah, I felt that cold front blow in last night. It was quite painful. Yesterday I tried to comment but right when I pressed the publish button I lost internet. I lost everything and it wasn't until after David came home for lunch that I finally got it back. So, everything sounds like it's coming along fine. Oh, and that yoga dude from the last post is unbelievable.

  2. Well, I'm glad Gypsy has a warm place. Hopefully the construction won't stress her out!

  3. You're going to laugh at this, but I have an app on my phone that, for some tasks, I set to "nag every minute" because I cannot be trusted to remember whatever it is. For example, Call Daddy. I never remember to call my father even though I know he appreciates it very much. Flibbertigibbet or terrible daughter?

I'm glad you're taking care of your grand-dragon, and I'm glad the bathroom is coming along. I do like the vanity color, so I agree about the baseboards.

  4. Dark baseboards show dust, light ones show dirt. Go with what you like.
Supposed to get some really intense weather here tomorrow. I can feel it brewing somewhere.
Can't wait to see what you paint tonight!

  6. It's flat cold here. I think you dragon's doing better than I am in the warming department. I should crank up the heat, but I keep seeing the dollar signs. I'll just go look for more clothes to put on. I thought we were going to miss out on rain, and we mostly have, but it's drizzling away, and really nasty.

    1. the rain missed us but not the cold. which is piercing. I wouldn't mind having a hot rock to climb on myself. we keep the thermostat down since our heat is propane but we have a great little electric heater we use in the evenings.

  7. If I were in the midst of all this, someone else would be keeping track of the details.

  8. Can you please come to NYC and oversee the renovation of our bathrooms? I suffer from such inertia when it comes to home upgrades. Oy. Love that flooring.

  9. Oh I like the new house guest. How active is she?

    1. about as active as a rock. she does move around but since I have seen her in different places in her aquarium but I have yet to see her move. apparently you only get to see that when you put live crickets in.

  10. If that's all that Gypsy has, he/she surely lives a sad life.

    1. they sort of inherited the bearded dragon. it's their son's but the woman who owns the house he lives in currently wouldn't allow Gypsy. I'm sure my daughter and s-i-l will do their best for her but right now they are mostly concerned with unpacking after their move and getting their electricity etc.
