The characters are many times flawed and therefore realistic.<br /><br />Kidd's "The Secret Life of Bees" and "The Mermaid Chair" have been interesting. I enjoy the simplicity of the writing. The setting is in South Carolina and there seems to be something compelling about southern writers.
