night lights

Last night...

The full moon rose over the cotton field,

fireflies flickered in the back*

and the space station passed right over the house.^

  1. Oh Ellen- these shots are fabulous, wonderful, sent me right over ...the moon. Fireflies- I don't think I have ever experienced fireflies- as intriguing as phosphorescence in the sound, I am sure, critters that light up are fascinating, myth making,What a skill!

  2. Beautiful images, but it's sad that NASA will no longer be sending astronauts up there to explore that frontier :(

  3. ellen it's been so long since i've seen fireflies - i can't even remember when i last saw them. i read books and people say they catch them and put them in jars and i wonder how and what that must look like. steven

  4. We used to see lots of fireflies, but the city started spraying the neighborhoods around the river for mosquitoes when the lime disease scares started. I think it kills out the fireflies, as well.

The moon was stunning last night!

  6. What extraordinary images!
Obviously, the moon photo spoke to me, but so did the fireflies. Reminded me so much of my childhood...

    Beautiful.

  7. Yes, the full moon has been particularly glorious the last several nights. Wonderful shots. No fireflies for us yet.

  13. In Mississippi, we called fireflies lightning bugs. Here in Oregon, we don't have them. They're one of the many things I miss.

  14. Alix - Time lapse, yeah. I didn't take it. It was the only picture I could find to illustrate it. But what I saw was two bright lights spaced apart with a blinking red light below and between them moving at a pretty good clip across the sky. It was pretty cool. I've seen satellites before moving across but they are like small stars. this was pretty big.
