work and other minor inconveniences

I’m composing this on the new computer.  It didn’t have to go back to the store after all.  Once we got back in the city and Marc had access to all his computer cables and other magic stuff, he got it to rights.  The new keyboard is so small, doesn’t have the extra little number pad on the right and the key buttons are nearly flush.  The new mouse is very cool also.  You can click anywhere on it and you can stroke it to make it scroll up and down or sideways as well.  I still haven’t transferred any of my stuff.  I’ll get to that in the coming days.

I’m also composing this at 1 o’clock in the morning.  I was very tired, ready for bed until my head hit the pillow.  Even now, my eyes are tired but I know that I still won’t be able to sleep.  It didn’t help that the snoring from the other occupant of the bed started up RIGHT AWAY!  How does he go to sleep so damn fast?!  I laid there for about two hours and finally got up to have a cup of tea.  Maybe that’ll help.

This month has been so busy and as usual I don’t feel like I have made nearly the progress I should have.  I’m not ready for January to be over.  I need at least one more week, two would be better.  Getting all those jewels prepared took so long.  But prepared they are now and we are going over to the church tomorrow to start laminating them onto the window.  I hope the weather cooperates since we have to tape the patterns to the outside of the window and there is no overhang.  Of course, rain is predicted for later in the week.  Once that is completed we can finally start working on the Catholic church.  They have been so patient, but like we told them, we were waiting on deposits all summer for these three big jobs and they all came in within two weeks of each other.  Unfortunately, theirs came last.

Because I am so busy, I haven’t had much time to blog and the next several weeks are going to be even worse, so if you have missed me, I’m trying to stay current on my reading but I’m not commenting much.  Later this month, Feb 17 - 22, we are teaching a 6 day workshop in Austin so besides trying to get work done on our jobs, I am having to prepare for the workshop...physically (getting all the stuff together) and mentally (trying to get my mind focused on the teaching part).

The art consultant still has not sent me the pictures of the glass wall in the chapel at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital.  But...I do have pics of the single panel we did for the gas transmission company that we squeezed in in January and which is the reason I am behind on my other work.  The art consultant is a repeat customer though and it pays to make him happy.  This one is 5' x 4' with silver and copper leaf accents.

Here’s a thing I have noticed.  On the old computer when I did a post I set the type at the ‘small’ selection and it looked about 12 point size but on the new computer, it’s really small, more like ‘smallest’ on the old computer.  So on this post, on the new computer, I set the type size to ‘normal’ and it looks about 12 point size but when I look at it on the old computer, it’s much larger, like the ‘normal’ setting.  What’s up with that?  What size does it look like on your screen?

  1. Not sure about the size but it looks fabbarooney on my screen...

I am one of those snorers you complain about... h'pparently!!

  2. It does look larger than your old print - but as E/D said it looks fabbarooney - I would leave it [my old eyes thank you :D]

Glad you got the computer up and going. I feel your pain about sleeping - Pooldad can be asleep before his head hits the pillow and then snores to beat the band. I just kick him out to the couch - which he never realizes till the next morning!

Try to take a break or two - you look reallllly busy. Take care.

  3. The font looks lovely! But in the past I have tended to zoom in a bit here because it was a tad small for my sweet little eyes.

  4. It looks small to me. Hmm. That is strange.

It's great that you're busy with work, but not great that you're having trouble sleeping.

Thank you for taking time to visit yesterday and leaving your wonderful imagistic comment. That's just the kind of "education" our children need.

  5. Font looks good to me!! And I love the newest piece you showed...that is totally awesome. Love the copper accents! Hope you finally got some sleep. My honey falls asleep fast too and starts right up snoring. Sigh! Wish I could do that?!

  7. The font size shouldn't change appearance with a different computer. Font size is font size, I think. I don't know, though, computers do weird things just to keep us on our toes.

  8. To me, the font size looks like a true size 12 now, perfect. And wow, you're busy. Always a good thing, keeps us on our toes!

  9. I'm seeing probably an 11 point scale. But maybe we all see it differently based on our monitor size. And as you know, with a Mac, you can magnify the screen with a quick two finger key stroke.

Your text looks very crisp and the point size looks good from where I'm sitting.

  10. "In theory, there is no difference between theory and real life. In real life there is." Saw this on Lampwork, Etc but don't know who's tag it is. Anyway,I agree with DLF that, in theory, font size should be font size, but it obviously isn't in real life. My aging eyes appreciate your new computer's compassionate fudging on the size. Or was it your old computer that had a wicked sense of humor...

  11. The size is bigger on my computer too - & I agree that's a good thing!

Sorry you're so busy - although I guess that's better than the alternative!

  12. It looks a bit bigger today ...

  13. I've been having a problem with regulating font size too. It looks "normal" from here., but larger than your last print.

It sounds like it's a busy time for you. Do what you need to do and blog when you can. Sometimes life is like that, and blogging has to come last.

That gas pipeline is very cool.

  14. Ellen the difference you're seeing between computers is the resolution. Check out your System Preferences and click on display. It's probably set to the most crisp resolution but you can change that to make things appear larger as they did in your old computer. I just got used to the change in mine because I like how crisp everything is.

  15. It looks bigger (and thus better to my tired eyes) but rather stylish too.

  17. Looks good to me.

    Your art is amazing.

I look forward to seeing the finished glass.

Sometimes tickling your snoring mate's face with a feather causes them to roll over and stop snoring.

  18. Font is fab. Your work is fab. I can't sleep half the time, and my husband snores like a maniac and he falls asleep the minute his head hits the pillow.

  19. What a striking piece! The print is about 12-point, I'd guess - more readable than the most recent post before it.

From some years of unacceptable snoring (my spouse's), we moved to separate bedrooms - at least for sleep purposes (I was developing a serious sleep deficiency) - and now, years later, I'm told I've also started making night noises.

  20. I know how you feel about January sliding into February already. What happened? But I'm glad that you are busy. Much better than the alternative. Carve out the quiet where you can. Peace.

  21. The type looks larger on my screen, but there's no way to control things like that except for yourself. Every browser interprets these things differently.

I love your cool tube like glass panel. It's beautiful and science fictiony.

Sorry you're too busy. Busy is good but too busy isn't.

    xx

  22. I like the work. I can see this geometric abstraction of the oil field in board rooms all over Houston. [so be careful who you show it to or you may have to do more]

  23. My husband falls asleep in about 5 seconds. I kid not. He used to snore horribly...but then he had his tonsils removed and a septoplasty on his nose. Now the snoring only starts when he's been drinking. LOL

Otherwise, I think I'd have to kill him. ;)

BTW, I think the font looks average...not too big, not too small.
