lifting

Thank you all for your wonderful supportive comments on my previous post.  I guess writing it all down in the wee hours of the morning yesterday, instead of trying to deal with it all internally, was all I needed as I felt my mood begin to lift during the day.  But not before I sliced the tip of my finger with a razor blade in the shop.  I am amazed to find out how often I use the middle finger of my left hand.  No, no, not that way...well maybe a little.

We got as much work done as we could and then closed up the city house, turned off the gas and water and headed home before the frigid front moves in today and ices over the bridges.  The shop is heated but not the sandblast booth.  This morning the wind is blowing steady at about 30 mph from the northwest and temperatures are dropping fast.

I was at a loss as to what to do about all my tropical and semi-tropical plants in the yard.  I don’t worry about them in a light freeze, they either make it or come back from the roots.  But this hard freeze, I don’t know.  I have four kinds of ginger, a beautiful star of india, plumerias, angel trumpet, hummingbird bush.  I took cuttings from several things to set to rooting and dug up a couple of ginger roots.  I don’t go to extreme measures.  I subscribe to the ‘sink or swim’ method of gardening.  Hopefully everything will come back from the roots.  Except maybe the plumerias.

So, last night, we’ve arrived, unloaded the truck and I’m setting up the computer and Marc has failed to bring the router to hook me up to the internet.  For some reason, out here, the ethernet cord doesn’t work.  I was resigned to using dial-up all weekend.  After about a half hour, he jumped up and went down to the Walmart (a store I refuse to shop at) and came back with a new router and got me hooked up.  Every time I get fed up and start wondering why I stick around, he does something like that to remind me.

Oh, and I got a glorious night’s sleep last night.

  1. I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better! I guess it really was the writing things down that helped you. And supportive comments, of course. Not mine, sorry. When I read it, it was too early for me to know what to write. Gut I'm really really happy to hear about your better sleep.

After days like the one you described in the previous post everything else looks so much better. And spring (not so soon, I know) will look so nice because of the cold of winter. No valleys if there are no hills, right?

    Take care!

  2. What a great post. The title just fits. Sometimes when things look bad, all we have to do is wait it out. Glad to hear things are looking up.

  3. This is why I vent (some other people might consider it to be complaining) on a regular basis - it makes me feel better.

Isn't it nice when our significant others do something to remind us of why we love them? I say my love is unconditional - & ultimately it is - but perks definitely help!

  7. I can totally relate to having the winter blues...it's something to do with the short hours and lack of real warm sunshine that tops the list. Hope you're doing better & you didn't get too much bad weather. Just to make you feel better...we're at -39!

  9. Yay on the sleep, makes a world of difference, doesn't it? Hey, you're warm, tending your injury and have a router, too. Not a bad place to be :)

  10. A problem shared is a problem cut in half. So they say, and i happen to agree. ;-)

I am so glad you are feeling better! Good luck with the plants.

  11. Glad you were able to sleep. Sleep always makes anything more bearable. WalMart is the only game in town around here. I suppose that is why they are planted in out of the way places.....easier to take advantage of folks with nowhere else to go.

  12. there you are! im like that in the course of a day - sometimes in the course of an hour - from a space where little works well, there's no flow . . . to a smooth, graceful, fluid and lovely time. i hope your plants survive. steven

  13. So sorry to hear your January has been rotten so far! Living with anyone overcoming addiction is no picnic, especially someone getting over cigarettes. That is the WORST.

Tuck in and stay warm, friend.

    Sending you much love.

  16. Dial-up? If my broadband doesn't work I just cry! I don't have an old modem to play with!

  17. Dial up? I'd be going insane too.

Glad you don't use that middle finger too much. ;)

And yay for good sleep! I tell ya, there's just nothing quite like it, is there?
