shock and awww

I know this is not big deal to my readers who live where it snows, where it is supposed to snow, but down here in south Texas, it’s not supposed to snow.

This is what is looked like at my sister’s house in Wharton yesterday morning.  Her house is about 6 miles away from ours there.  We are still in Houston.  It snowed mostly all day yesterday interspersed with rain.

Enough settled here in the city to allow the grandgirls to make a little snow sculpture.

Just a one day event, it’s all melted today.

  1. I love the snow person! I do not look forward to snow like I did as a child.

  2. Ah, a treat, actually, for southern Texas. We have the same expectations here on the Pacific Northwest. Snow falls everywhere except on the coast. When we get it on the coast, the world stops and admires.

  3. Too great!

It has been snowing like gangbusters all morning and as usual the weathermen/women had it wrong - it has snowed over 4 inches so far when they were predicting 2.

    I don't care....We are having fondue. Woohoo!

  5. Here I am up here waiting for any snowflake I can get, as Reya aptly put it as s(NO)w, and you get a boat load! I'm green with envy. ;^)

  6. We haven't had a flake yet here in New England either. But tonight they're predicting an inch or two, enough to look pretty for Christmastime. Charming sculpture!

  7. It looks lovely - & it's the best kind - not lingering to annoy me on my commute to work. I have a love/hate relationship with snow.

I wonder about changing weather patterns. If south Texas is going to get snow now, what does that mean for insulation & the cold weather clothing market down there? Or is it a fluke? Time will tell.

  10. Flakes are just starting here - they look few, and far between, though.

  11. This brought such a smile to my face! My cousins (In Rockport) called my Mom to get tips, as they were anxiously awaiting this snow. I hope it reached Rockport! Her little ones have never seen real snow! I do know what a big deal it is. My uncle was just a few years older than I and was tickled to come for Christmas (sled in tow) back in the 60's! I married in December (of '86, and his children were in my wedding. They too were AMAZED at the snow! (She was the one that called earlier). Enjoy! Great job on your snowman!

  13. I well remember what a treat and how magical it was to get snow in Houston. I remember how schools would close and how we'd run out and play in the snow like crazy. So rare and so beautiful. Hope you were able to stay warm!

  14. Oh my Gods! We haven't seen any snow in New York City yet. I'm telling you this Global Warming thing gets scarier every day. One of these days El Niño, La Niña and all their cousins are going to run amok!

    Pretty pics though ;)

  17. Up here in Arkansas we don't get much snow, either! This was beautiful. Isn't it great to have just a taste of it once in a while? C

  18. Here's the even weirder thing...we live in a very snowy area, yet other than a few barely-there dustings, we haven't had any snow yet. Boo! :)
